2021 WGA Awards Nominations Revealed: ‘Chicago 7’, ‘Borat 2’, ‘Sound of Metal’ and More
2021 WGA Awards Nominations Revealed The Writers Guild of America (WGA) has announced its nominees in the categories of Original, Adapted and Documentary Screenplay for the 2021 WGA Awards. The eligibility period is January 1, 2020-February 28, 2021. Winners will be announced March 21 in a virtual ceremony.
Every year, the Writers Guild of America leaves out several Oscar-contending screenplays in its award nominations. But this year’s ineligible list is massive, “Mank”, “Nomadland”, “Minari”, “The Father”, “Pieces of a Woman”, “Ammonite”, “Emma”, “The Personal History of David Copperfield” and “Let Them All Talk” didn’t make the final cut.

The WGA maintains jurisdiction over whether scripts are produced under a Writer’s Guild contract, and who finally gets credit on a screenplay (they do not cover most animated films, like this year’s Pixar Oscar contender, “Soul”). The guild insists on withholding non-signatories from being part of the WGA Awards.
