What is Daughters of the Cult about?

On December 21, 2023, Hulu also debuted the trailer for Daughters of the Cult. First line of the trailer: “I was 13 years old the day I escaped my father’s cult; it was very frightening because I knew if somebody saw me, that was the end.”

Survivors discussing their ordeals throughout the years follows. The individuals ensnared by the Ervil LeBaron cult and the challenges encountered by the law enforcement agencies tasked with investigating them will be the primary subjects of the upcoming documentary series.

It is based on the true story of religious fundamentalist cult leader Ervil Morrell LeBaron, who used the theological concept of blood atonement to rationalize the mass murder of his political opponents.

A startling five-part documentary that examines the polygamous Ervil LeBaron cult’s history from the perspective of those who were there. A sect of Mormon fundamentalists, known as the “Mormon Manson,” has been quietly killing off followers of their zealous leader Ervil LeBaron for decades throughout Mexico and the Southwest.

Now, witnesses, family members of the murderers, and members of the police force have come forward to portray a graphic and disturbing image of a savage lunatic who ordered cold-blooded deaths. Success, healing, and sisterhood await the courageous few who manage to flee the cult and start over, even though they spend the majority of their youths evading the FBI.

What to Expect?

When polygamist Ervil LeBaron founded the Church of the First Born of the Lamb of God in 1972, his family’s life took a dramatic turn. Many women were allegedly molested by the supposed religious extremist, who was also involved in other illicit enterprises. The cult leader’s life will be detailed in an upcoming documentary series called Daughters of the Cult on Hulu.

The five-part documentary will trace the rise of Ervil LeBaron to the position of family patriarch. He founded the aforementioned gang and had his rivals assassinated, going against his brother Joel in the process. Afterwards, Ervil allegedly subjected young girls to sexual assault and prepared them to marry polygamist men. Nevertheless, Ervil was extradited to the United States in June 1979 when he was captured for his crimes.

Ervil was given a life sentence after being found guilty of the murder of another conservative Mormon. His death in prison at the age of 56 was reported by the New York Times. But rumors have it that Ervil LeBaron was involved with the Mexican drug lords.
