Grace Hightower is an American philanthropist, actress, and singer. She is well-known as the ex-wife of actor Robert De Niro. The couple met in London at a nightclub in the late 1990s. They got married in 1997 and welcomed their first child, Elliot, in 1998. Shortly after Elliot’s birth, Robert filed for divorce due to reported difficulties maintaining their marriage.

Despite the initial separation, the couple revived their vows in 2004. The couple became parents to their second child, Helen, in 2011. Seven years later, in 2018, the couple split again, and since then, they have been engaged in continuous legal battles concerning finances and property division. One of the most significant issues has been the credit card limit on Hightower’s account, which was reduced from $100,000 to $50,000 per month.

The pandemic took a toll on Robert De Niro’s financial wealth

The COVID-19 pandemic had some severe impacts on Robert De Niro’s million-dollar businesses. Despite being one of the highest-paid actors in the industry, the pandemic blew a significant financial storm at him. Due to the lockdown, his popular restaurant and hotel chains had to shut down, and the actor had to cut down his expenses. One is reducing the credit card limit of his ex-wife, Grace Hightower, from $100,000 to $50,000. This wasn’t well received by the actress, and she even went to court to file a complaint against him.

Grace Hightower took legal action due to Robert De Niro’s cost-cutting measures amid the pandemic

Robert De Niro’s love life was no less than a rollercoaster ride, dating back from his first marriage to Diahnne Abbott in 1976. The couple was happily married, with Robert even adopting Abbott’s daughter from her previous relationship. The couple had a son named Raphel in 1976, the same year they married. They parted ways in 1988. After this, Robert was seen involved with the model Toukie Smith, with whom he welcomed twins with the help of surrogacy. This relationship didn’t last long, and they split in 1996.

The following year, the “Taxi Driver” star married Grace Hightower until they split in 2018. This was Robert’s longest relationship to date. Their divorce isn’t finalized yet. But De Niro is known to pay a monthly allowance to Grace Hightower in the form of a credit card with a monthly limit of $100,000. As mentioned, due to the financial crises amid the lockdown, De Niro reduced the allowance to half, which the actress did not appreciate.

She went to the court complaining about it during the pandemic’s peak. However, the following year, their relationship made news once more when an appeals court ruled that she was not entitled to half of De Niro’s wealth. Because of this, it appears certain that they will never get back together, even if it’s unclear when their divorce will be finalized.
