Will there be a ‘Ginny & Georgia’ Season 3? Netflix has a never-ending love affair with shows about teenagers. Irrespective of the genre, there is something about “Netflix and a teen show” that always equals a hit. Ginny & Georgia sits in a very niche category on paper.
A single mother raising two children in a new city all by herself, haunted by her personal demons from the past, is not your everyday show. And that is just simplifying the show’s complex storytelling into a single line. Ginny & Georgia is about so much more and still manages to outperform a true mainstream series.
Brianne Howey and Antonia Gentry play the mother-daughter duo whose relationship always blows hot and cold. They truly are the soul of American modernism, which is represented unapologetically in the show. Season 2 aired this month, and we have some exciting new developments to share with you. Here is what we know about a possible season 3 of Ginny and Georgia on Netflix.
What are Ginny & Georgia Seasons 1 & 2 about?
Season 1 focuses on the Miller family – mother Georgia and kids Ginny and Austin – arriving in Wellsbury, New England, to begin afresh. It followed the titular protagonists making their way into their new lives, building relationships with the town locals, and discovering parts of themselves that they previously did not know about.
The tone frequently oscillated between shades of teen drama, family dysfunction, and light-hearted comedy. But despite that, we saw big revelations like Georgia’s brutal and unfortunate assault as a teenager, her toxic marriage, and several other conceits brought to life by flashbacks.
Season 2 was more theatrical in how all the drama unfolded. Through Ginny, pertinent issues about mental health were raised. Her surprise breakup with Felix and the lack of any MANG action at the school made that aspect of the storytelling a little lackluster. However, that was compensated by more serious-minded adolescent themes. Gil resurfaced, and Ginny almost got married. But her previous flirtations and close calls with the law returned to haunt her.
Has Ginny & Georgia been renewed for season 3?
At the time of writing this, Netflix has not officially decided. Although it still might prove to be innocuous in the long run, creator Sarah Lampert raised doubts about season 3 with her statements. The creator conceded that she was “not thinking” of a third season just yet. Moreover, she said the following to the Deadline about the possibilities of Ginny and Georgia renewing.
“There have been no talks with Netflix about season 3,” she told Deadline. They’re very regimented about how they do things. “So there’s very much a strategy in place where I think we’ll drop it, and then we have to wait to see how it does and if we’re going to see season 3, but I certainly hope we do because it’s going to be a wild ride.”
Going off that, one can assume that the writers have a basic sketch of the season ready to go. It is only fair that we raise our expectations for a renewal, given how well the show has performed. Obviously, the viewership numbers have been outstanding, with the show consistently hitting the top ten list.
What we know about season 3 so far:
Lampert was on hand to give some details about what could happen in season 3. She hinted toward a change in the dynamics of how we would view Georgia in the next season. The ending of season 2 really set the fireworks alight in the show’s universe as Georgia was arrested.
Lampert said, “I think it’s this idea that the show is going to look really different in season 3 – if we were to get one – because this was a woman who was a superhero at what she did, and now she’s been caught,” she added. “It’s almost like Superman got taken down. We’ll see if she can get out of this mess she’s found herself in.”
We can expect season 3 of Ginny and Georgia to air by next year, given how long the previous season took to complete filming. This is subject to an official renewal by Netflix, and well will be sure to update this page when it happens.
