How To Watch Cocaine Bear?: The latest directorial effort of Elizabeth Banks, titled “Cocaine Bear,” is based on a true story where a 175-pound black bear literally overdosed on Cocaine that was dropped in duffle bags from an airplane. The pilot was a convicted drug smuggler, not to mention.
With a story as insane as this one, the only way to go has to be completely bonkers; and Banks has done exactly that and nothing else. The actor-turned-director has previously directed Pitch Perfect II (2015) and Charlie’s Angel (2019), both of which were decent entertainers. Cocaine Bear is, of course, her biggest gamble yet, and it does have all the possibility of a huge pay-off.
As you would expect, instead of depicting the story exactly how it happened, Bank has taken some creative liberty, and what she has made can be termed as a comedic exaggeration. In the real incident, the Bear did consume the drug. But it did not kill anybody, and, in the end, it died from an overdose which is pretty saddening. However, in the movie version, the bear gets high and goes on a killing rampage, for more cocaine, which is surely going to be more exhilarating to watch and cater to a lot of laughter from the audience. According to reports, the movie has rightfully offered a very sensitive treatment instead of showing the bear as a villain. Thanks to the movie, the actual Cocaine Bear incident has also recently become viral on social media.
Cocaine Bear Cast:
With Banks at the helm of it, the movie has managed to comprise a pretty solid ensemble cast as well which is filled with popular names. Actress Keri Russell, whose last major role was in the fantastic cold-war spy drama “The Americans” (2013-2018), is headlining the cast. O’Shea Jackson Jr. (Straight Outta Compton), Alden Ehrenreich (Solo: A Star Wars Story), and Isiah Whitlock Jr (The Wire) are in the supporting cast.
“The Florida Project” (2017) breakout and star of Apple TV’s “Home Before Dark” (2020-present) is also in the cast with another child actor, Netflix’s Sweet Tooth breakout Christian Convey. Completing the supporting cast is Russell’s “The Americans” co-star Margo Martindale and actor Ray Liotta in his final appearance, which also makes the movie the actor’s first and only posthumous release.
