Hulu Originals

The Good Mothers: Complete Limited Series, Premiers on April 5

Three brave women from the notorious ‘Ndrangheta mafia in Calabria worked alongside a newly appointed female prosecutor, Alessandra Cerreti, to dismantle the criminal empire.

The women involved in the case were wives and mothers of high-ranking members of the ‘Ndrangheta mafia. They were subjected to violent oppression and marginalization due to the patriarchal nature of the criminal organization.

Anna’s involvement began with the infamous disappearance of Lea Garofalo, who had agreed to testify against her husband, Carlo Cosco, in order to free herself from his control and give her daughter Denise a better life.

As Anna’s investigation progressed, she uncovered the stories of two other courageous women, Giuseppina Pesce, and Concetta Cacciola, who had also endured oppressive and suffocating lives within the ‘Ndrangheta. Despite their vastly different backgrounds, both women shared a fierce determination to escape and create a brighter future for themselves and their children, just as Lea had attempted to do.

The Pope: Answers: Special, Premieres on April 5

“The Pope: Answers” is an original Spanish special that features Pope Francis and is directed by Jordi Évole and Màrius Sanchez. The special was filmed in Rome and focuses on a meeting between the current head of the Catholic Church and ten young adults of different ages, backgrounds, and experiences who speak Spanish.

During the special, the Pope engages in honest conversations with the ten young adults, who are between 20 and 25 years old, about a wide range of topics. These topics include feminism, the role of women in the Church, reproductive rights, loss of faith, the migration crisis, LGBTQIA+ rights, abuse within the Church, racism, and mental health.

The meeting between the Pope and the young adults took place in July 2022 in Pigneto, one of Rome’s most eclectic neighborhoods. The Pope speaks candidly, resulting in a dynamic and intense conversation that is based on empathy, curiosity, respect, and mutual learning.

Tiny Beautiful Things: Complete Limited Series, Premieres on April 7

“Tiny Beautiful Things,” based on Cheryl Strayed’s best-selling collection, tells the story of Clare (Kathryn Hahn), a struggling writer whose personal life is falling apart. Clare’s marriage to her husband Danny is on the brink of collapse, her teenage daughter Rae is distant, and her writing career is non-existent.

When an old friend asks her to take over as the advice columnist for Dear Sugar, Clare initially feels unqualified to give advice. Despite her reservations, she assumes the role of Sugar, and through her responses to readers’ letters, Clare delves into her own memories and confronts the pain of her past.

As she offers guidance to others, Clare discovers a way to heal herself and find her way back to a place of hope. “Tiny Beautiful Things” is a testament to the power of storytelling and the resilience of the human spirit, showing that even in the darkest moments, we can find the strength to keep going.

Am I Being Unreasonable?: Complete Season 1, Premiers on April 11

“Am I Being Unreasonable?” is a co-production between Boffola Pictures and Lookout Point, receiving critical acclaim for its raw and gripping storyline. Her only source of joy is her son, Ollie (Lenny Rush, “Apple Tree House”).

However, when Jen (Selin Hizli, “Mum”) enters her life, Nic finally finds someone who can make her laugh again. As she opens up to this kindred soul, Nic’s dark secret starts to resurface. The show’s twisted plot is written and stars Daisy May Cooper and Selin Hizli, with executive producer Jack Thorne.

Algiers, America: Two-Episode Docuseries, Premiere on April 19

The five-part series “Algiers, America” follows the inspiring story of a high school football coach and his team in one of New Orleans’ oldest neighborhoods, as well as the community that rallies around them in the face of adversity. Director Jackson Fager spent two years embedded in Algiers, documenting the journey of Coach Brice Brown and the Edna Karr Cougars as they strive for a fifth state championship in just six years.

The series also introduces a cast of compelling characters, including a passionate community leader and educator and several families grappling with issues such as gun violence, death, and incarceration. Through their stories, “Algiers, America” offers a candid and sometimes challenging portrayal of life in a community that is fighting to define itself by triumph, both on and off the football field.
