John Wick: Chapter 4 Early Reviews Are In: Keanu Reeves, who was last seen as Neo in Lana Wachowski’s The Matrix Resurrections, is set to make a comeback to the cinema by portraying the notorious hitman John Wick in the upcoming film titled “John Wick: Chapter 4.”
John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum ends with Winston surprisingly shooting John Wick, causing him to fall off the roof of the Continental. His body is carried away by the Bowery King’s men, hinting at a possible alliance between the two in the next movie.
After the astounding early reactions on Twitter, the early reviews of John Wick: Chapter 4 have started to pour in, and they are overwhelmingly positive at the time of writing this article.
Frank Scheck of Hollywood Reporter writes in his review, “Latest entry in Keanu Reeves franchise is pure, over-the-top action spectacle.” He affirms that Director Chad Stahelski and his team have “outshone their previous work.” He continues, “These sequences play like the great dance numbers in old MGM musicals, complete with incredibly complicated, lengthy continuous shots that feature the full bodies of the performers rather than kinetically edited snippets of a gun here or a limb there. They’re so virtuosic you practically want to stand up and applaud when each one is over. “

John Wick has definitely revolutionized modern action cinema, and Chapter 4 takes it a step further. Simon Thompson of The Playlist writes, “With this wildly satisfying world tour de force, Reeves’ Wick transcends icon status delivering the perfect bone-crunching crescendo to one of the great action franchises in cinema history. It’s pure gold.“
Ian Sandwell of Digital Spy talks about the epicness of the John Wick franchise and how Chapter 4 continues it. He writes, “John Wick: Chapter 4 is an epic in every sense of the word: epic in length, epic in scale, and epic in thrills. Not bad for a series that started out with a hitman avenging his dead puppy.“
Currently, John Wick: Chapter 4 holds a 90% rotten tomatoes rating on the basis of 42 reviews. 38 critics have given fresh ratings, while four were not happy with the film.
Charles Bramesco of the Guardian was left disappointed with the film. In his review, he writes, “Those who appreciated the original for its brutal, sinewy agility have another thing coming: a lumbering, stultifying gargantuan of a film“
The film is enjoying a 77% Metacritic rating (the highest in the franchise) based on 19 critics’ reviews.
Apart from some divided opinions about John Wick: Chapter 2, the entire franchise has been receiving mostly positive reviews from both action movie enthusiasts and film critics and has been on a winning streak.
Originally set to be released on May 27, 2022, John Wick: Chapter 4 release date was postponed to March 24, 2023, due to production delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Besides Keanu Reeves, Donnie Yen, Hiroyuki Sanada, Rina Sawayama, Scott Adkins, Lance Reddick, and Ian McShane are also part of the cast. Laurence Fishburne will be returning to the franchise as Bowery King, the leader of the Bowery gang.
The fourth installment follows John Wick as he fights for survival against the High Table, the global organization of assassins.
