Mank (2020) Trailer Out: David Fincher Takes On Hollywood Golden Age In New Netflix Biopic
At last, the long wait is over as Netflix has released the official trailer of Mank (2020), David Fincher’s highly anticipated films of 2020 with Gary Oldman portraying the titular role. The upcoming biographical drama, will take us into the very heart of Hollywood, and filmmaking, by showing us the development of one of the most legendary movies ever.
Mank (2020) will follow the life of Herman J. Mankiewicz (Gary Oldman), the newspaper man turned screenwriter, as he rushes towards the tumultuous development of Orson Welles’ 1941 movie, “Citizen Kane”, which has become an iconic work of art and regarded by many as the finest film ever made. Keeping in with the classic vibe, the film has been shot entirely in black and white to portray the outsized influence of Golden Age of Hollywood.

The new Netflix trailer of Mank (2020) also explores Mank’s relationship with news magnate William Randall Hearst, who inspired the Citizen Kane character Charles Foster Kane. Jack Fincher, director’s late father, developed the script before his death in 2003. The ensemble starcast includes Tom Burke as Welles, Charles Dance as William Randolph Hearst, Amanda Seyfried as Marion Davies, Tom Pelphrey as Joseph L. Mankiewicz and Lilly Collins as Mank’s secretary Rita Alexander.
The original score for Mank (2020) has been composed by Academy Award winning duo Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross who have previously worked with Fincher on “Gone Girl” and “The Social Network”, the latter winning them the prestigious award. Fincher roped in DP Erik Messerschmidt who also shot “Mindhunter“, a Netflix original, with him.
Mank, is the first feature film by Fincher since the mysterious thriller “Gone Girl” back in 2014. He is also known for directing critically acclaimed films like “Fight Club”, “Zodiac”, and “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” among many others. Fincher has previously collaborated with Netflix at the forefront of “House of Cards”, “Mindhunter” and “Love, Death & Robot series”.

The British actor who won the Academy Award for his rendition of Winston Churchill in “The Darkest Hour”, 2018, is working with Fincher for the first time in his impressive three decades long career. Mank(2020) also marks a rare opportunity for Oldman to appear natural on screen and not play a character whose portrayal involves extreme makeup or prosthetics.
Gary Oldman is known for his notable films like “Bram Stoker’s Dracula”, “the Harry Potter Franchise”, “Tinker Tailor Solider Spy”, “True Romance”, and “Leon: The Professional”.
