Casinos have been a popular feature of movies over the years. This is not a shock given that gambling is such a popular activity across the globe. In India alone the gambling industry is estimated to be worth around US$60 billion.

A significant amount of this revenue comes from gambling in land based casinos in Goa, Daman and Sikkim and online in reputable casinos such as these listed ones for India. Considering how popular these casino games are it’s hardly surprising that casino related movies are audience favourites. With that in mind, let’s take a look at some of the best movies that have featured casinos as part of their plot. There is something to appeal to everyone in this list of popular titles.

The Cincinnati Kid

Steve McQueen is impressive in this movie which tells the story of the competition between an up and coming gamble and a high-roller. The battle between the two culminates in an exciting high-stakes game where winning is everything.

Poker is the name of the game in this exciting movie that features excellent performances from Matt Damon, John Malkovich and Edward Norton. The plot involves Damon’s character paying for his university tuition by playing poker. Like The Cincinnati Kid, the finale of this film revolves around the thrill of a high stakes game.

Casino Royale

There are two separate versions of this story, but the 2006 movie, starring Daniel Craig as James Bond, is the more famous of the two. It’s also the most impressive version. Craig makes a suave and exciting Bond and Eva Green is stunning in her role. The Monte Carlo casino based showdown between Craig and the film’s villain is especially memorable.

This is arguably the most famous film ever created around a Casino theme. It’s on many film critic’s lists of the best films of all time. This is a thrilling and intoxicating tale of the mob characters who used to control the casino action in Las Vegas. There are some incredible performances in this movie from big names such as Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci and Sharon Stone. It’s a hugely memorable cinematic masterpiece.

Rain Man

Tom Cruise gives arguably his best ever performance in this movie. He stars as Charlie Babbit, a self-obsessed businessman who discovers that he has an older brother that he never knew about.

Dustin Hoffman gives an astonishing performance as the older brother Raymond who is an autistic savant. The casino action comes into the film when Charlie takes Raymond to Las Vegas with the intention of using his skills at the blackjack tables. While this movie certainly features casinos, its central theme is the growing relationship between the two brothers as they learn more about each other.

Gambling lovers will relish the casino based action in these films. However, the quality of the plots and acting should appeal to any movie lover.
