If you are not living under a rock, you would be aware that Netflix’s Purple Hearts has become the streamer’s unexpected mega-hit. The possibility of a sequel to Purple Hearts had the lovers of the movie on the tip of their toes, until recently, when Nicholas Galitzine, the main lead of the movie weighed in.
English Actor, Nicholas Galitzine is right at the center of attention right now. After bagging an important role in Prime Video’s Cinderella, starring Camila Cabello, the kind of attention Netflix’s Purple Hearts has been getting has only made the actor some kind of heartthrob.
Purple Hearts is Netflix’s most successful film of 2022, so far
Post its release on the streaming giant on July 29, the romantic drama has not just raised eyebrows but has surprised the Netflix algorithm too. Having been watched for over 150 million hours, Purple Hearts has become the most popular Netflix film of 2022 (surpassing big guns like The Gray Man).
In an interview with People magazine, the British actor said that the support for the small film has been incredibly “overwhelming.”
He admitted that “What was on screen was a testament to all the hard work we put in and our want to collaborate. And the fact that that could have such a crazy resonance is very much hard to process.”
Tess Wakefield’s book from which the movie has been adapted was a story about two people who have very different ideologies about life. Making Cassie (Sofia Carson) and Luke’s (Galitzine) fake marriage scenario feel relatable and palpable was a tough ask, but Galitizne took it as a challenge because this was something he has never done before.

Galitzine also said that Carson, who also executive produced and wrote the soundtrack for Purple Hearts, rehearsed with him over Zoom and never actually met in person before the shoot commenced. The two of them got into the groove of their characters as soon as they shot the finale scene during the first week of filming.
He claims that Carson has a great work ethic and the two of them instantly connected with each other on an emotional level, uplifting the chemistry they share in the movie.
Will there be a sequel to Purple Hearts?
While Netflix hasn’t officially greenlit a sequel, Galitzine hinted that possibilities are endless. On being asked about the sequel to Purple Hearts, he said “We’ll see what happens, for sure.” Adding that “Even privately we joke about what would happen and how to possibly continue the story because the script would have to be good. It would have to make sense. It would have to work. There are many different ways it could go, and we’ll wait and see if it’s the right story. But it’s very cool to see people asking for a second one,” he is just teasing the lovers of the film even further.
