Actor-filmmaker-pioneer Andy Serkis has officially joined ‘Venom 2’ as the director. Serkis’s knack for theatrical direction would really elevate Venom, considering the possibilities the character holds. His experience with CGI and Motion Capture is second to none in the industry, and he has always turned great CG into a multifaceted one, something even the Marvel and DC houses have failed to do.

Upon its release, the grit and eccentricity in Venom was highlighted, and the charisma Tom Hardy displayed proved we were going to witness the character in its no-holds barred form. Venom managed to cross $800 million, and the film’s mid credits sequence introduced Carnage, the most ferocious villain in the Spider Man universe. Carnage has also proved to be Venom’s arch-enemy in many editions, with both the characters’ display of rage being a fan favorite.

The challenging step was to succeed with the Venom character, without the involvement of Spider Man, and now that this weight is gone, we can definitely expect more creative liberty in terms of plot and world building in Venom 2.

But ‘Venom’ screenwriter Jeff Pinkner also mentioned in 2018 that, “Without revealing anything that I’m not allowed to reveal, it is not impossible that in a future / upcoming venom movie that Spider-Man will play a significant role. Everyone involved would be very excited by a Spider-Man/Venom movie”. So it wouldn’t be a reach to hope for some Spidey involvement in Venom 2.

Serkis has also had experience with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, playing Ulysses Klaue, in ‘Age of Ultron’ and ‘Black Panther’, and he understands the intensity needed in a superhero film. Woody Harrelson, who’ll be playing Carnage, has also combined with Serkis on ‘War for the Planet of the Apes’, and their chemistry will be very essential to the sequel.

Serkis also added to the news by posting on Instagram, with the caption “Verified It’s actually happening. I can feel it, the Symbiote has found a host in me, and I’m ready for the ride…Can’t wait! Are you ready Tom Hardy?”, and I’m already loving this man’s enthusiasm!
