We’re halfway through 2015, with July almost arriving, but I waited to finish watching all the possible good films of 2015 before I come up with a list that I totally find justified for my own taste. Here is a comprehensive list of the Best Films from 2015. Do not go bonking if you don’t see Son of Saul , The Revenant on the list or Spotlight in the Top 10. I loved both the films, and they ‘may’ deserve all the critical praise and love from the audiences but I didn’t find them better than other films that topped them.

If I have to describe The Look of Silence in one word, I would say ‘sick’. The people you meet in this documentary, the things they say and the audacity with which they talk about their age old crimes is sickening to say the least. Here is a documentary that offers nothing violent but still manages to make you uncomfortable with its cringe worthy conversations. People get old and withered but only a handful of them become wiser and ponder upon the evil things they did when they were younger. Unfortunately in Joshua Oppenheimer’s The Look of Silence, there are no such people, they murdered hundreds of thousands of people and they take pride in it because the country made heroes of them.

Great cinematography has a tendency of sneaking up on you. When it’s done well, the average moviegoer will have a sense of appreciation for the level of visual beauty on display but most people aren’t really conscious of the artistry involved and the incredible level of work that goes into the making of all of those pretty pictures. I know for me personally, it took many years of film appreciation before it finally occurred to me the extremely important place that cinematography holds within the movie making process.
