Irrespective of the bad films, he was part of, we all loved Ben Affleck as Batman. However, after speculating for months as to who will replace him as the new caped crusader, there is finally news on it. Robert Pattinson has been cast as the new Batman. Pattinson will play the titular character in Matt Reeves’ upcoming “The Batman.”
After working with revered auteurs like Claire Denis, Safdie Brothers, and David Cronenberg, this is a major return for the actor to big-budget cinema after he did the Twilight Saga earlier in his career. Variety.com broke the news and reported that the negotiations “are not yet fully complete” but Robert Pattinson is the top choice for the role and the deal is all set to close.
Pattinson’s first claim to worldwide fame was when he starred in the critically dissed, but massively successful at the box office, “The Twilight Saga.” However, his choices of films after Twilight established Pattinson as one of the most important actors in the independent film circuit. He worked with David Cronenberg in Cosmopolis and Maps to the Star, Claire Denis in High Life and Safdie Brothers in Good Time. His next exciting indie project is The Lighthouse, where he is starring alongside Willem Dafoe. The film is being directed by Robert Eggers of The VVitch Fame.
Pattinson will be the 6th actor to play Batman after Michael Keaton, Val Kilmer, George Clooney, Christian Bale, and Ben Affleck. Among these, only Christian Bale has received true critical fame and was praised by moviegoers and film critics alike. Only time will tell if Robert Pattinson will be able to break the Batman curse or not. Nonetheless, we have no doubts about his capacity as an actor.
