The Gold Plot:

“The Gold” is a well-researched series that looks at the famous Brink’s-Mat robbery, which changed British crime history forever. On November 26, 1983, six armed thieves set out on Old Kent Road to do what they thought would be a normal armed crime. But when they broke into the Brink’s-Mat security center near Heathrow airport, they found £26 million worth of gold bullion, which was not what they had planned. A security guard who was in on the plan made it easy for the thieves to get into the building. Inside, they doused the staff with gasoline and threatened to set them on fire if they didn’t give the code numbers to the vault.

This bold theft was a turning point in the history of British crime. It set off a chain of events that had far-reaching effects. The stolen gold bullion was used to launder money, which caused a real estate boom in London Docklands, led to large-scale international money laundering operations, and brought together white-collar and blue-collar crooks in ways no one expected. Sad to say, it also led to killings.
