The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (Season 2): Release of ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’ on Amazon Prime Video was one of the biggest events in the world of television this year. The epic fantasy drama planned for a five Season run is the most expensive series in television history, with a projected budget of over a billion USD. Based on JRR Tolkien’s best-selling and cult favorite work, the television series is set during the Second age of Middle Earth and has an ensemble cast playing all manner of beings in the world of Tolkien, Elves, Dwarves, Harfoots, Humans, and Orcs.
The much-anticipated series premiered in September 2022. While the show was equally loved and reviled it has still managed to become a global hit. Vernon Sanders, head of global television for Amazon Studios stated that the show has topped the chart for the most viewed Original series for Prime Video and has crossed 100 million views by a worldwide audience. Season 2 of the series has already started shooting and is being produced by showrunners and executive producers J.D. Payne & Patrick McKay.
The Rings of Power (Season 2) Cast Round-Up
With season two already in production, Amazon Prime Video has released its first major news related to the second Season of the epic fantasy show. There has been a significant casting decision made with a major character from Season 1 recast. The character of ‘Adar’, the leader of the Orcs and one of the first Orc created from an Elf, previously played by Joseph Malwe has been recast. Sam Hazeldine will now essay the role of Adar. Fans would recognize Hazeldine from his recurring role as George Sewell in the historical gangster drama Peaky Blinders and more recently as Barnaby in ‘The Sandman’ (2022). Apart from this major casting change, new characters will also join the world of Middle Earth though the nature of their characters is still to be disclosed.
Seven new actors join the already large international star cast. Gabriel Akuwudike last seen in the Amazon Prime Video series as Max Kaplan in ‘Hanna’ will join the cast. Yasen ‘Zates’ Atour known as Coen for his role in Season 2 of The Witcher has been cast along with Ben Daniels, fans would recognize Daniels from his role as Antony Charles Robert Armstrong-Jones, 1st Earl of Snowdon, in Season 3 of the hit Netflix series The Crown.
Nia Towle was last seen as Louisa Musgrove in the film ‘Persuasion’ (2022) and joins the cast. Nicholas Woodeson is also cast along with Amelia Kenworthy who makes her television debut with this epic fantasy television series. The production for the show seems to be in full swing with former cast members returning for the new season and new ones added, the audiences will have to wait for the next season of ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’ which is a far way off to know what route does this fantasy epic take.
