The Latest and Upcoming Bollywood Movies of 2020: It has been an interesting year for Bollywood in 2019 so far. It has touched both extremes of the spectrum. On one side, there are films like Hamid and Photograph, with an accurate depiction of the reality. On the other hand, we have no-brainers like ‘Student of the Year 2’ and Total Dhamaal. There have also been blockbusters like Kabir Singh and Super 30. So, it’s a full house as far as the variety of films is concerned.
Going by the trend, we can assume that it’s no longer an easy game to churn out a blockbuster. The failure of Shahrukh Khan’s Zero and the success of Ayushman Khurana’s Andhadhun says it all. It’s proof of the changing dynamics of blockbuster cinema.

Speaking of Khurrana, he is going strong this year as well. His latest Article 15 has been critically acclaimed and commercially successful. Similar to Article 15, another police story, Soni (a Netflix Release) has garnered some critical appreciation this year.
With Gully Boy, Manikarnika, Uri and Mission Mangal, Bollywood’s obsession with Biopics is in full glory this year. But there is hope, still, that before the year ends, we will get to see something like October or Andhadhun. If not, there is always another year to build our anticipation. From the 10 movies listed below, it seems Bollywood in 2020 is heading in the right direction, picking risky subjects for moderate budget to minimise the loss.
Here are 10 Most anticipated Bollywood movies of 2020:

1. ’83 | Kabir Khan

Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone, Ammy Virk

'83 Upcoming Bollywood movies of 2020

Cricket is almost a religion and an emotion in India. And it was at the time when there was no way to telecast the matches. The cricket fans had to rely on Radios for the updates of those matches which kept them at the edge of their seats.

Among them, the 1983 world cup is one of the most important matches in Indian Cricket history. Indian players surprised themselves and the audiences with an unexpected victory, in an unimaginable way. And Kapil Dev made history on that day by exhibiting an intense-filled game in the field.

Now, this is being made as a film to visually capture such a historical event and it might try to satisfy both the cricket and cinema fans to see the ’83 match in a way. Ranveer Singh plays as Kapil Dev and the first look of his uncanny poster has already created a buzz among the fans.

Kabir Khan, from the maker of Bajrangi Bhaijaan, is directing this film with Deepika Padukone as one the producers in the film. She also plays as Kapil Dev’s wife Romi Bhatia. It is definitely one of the most anticipated Bollywood movies of 2020.

2. Chhapaak | Meghna Gulzar

Deepika Padukone, Vikrant Massey, Delzad Hiwale

Now, this is another biopic in Bollywood from the director of Raazi, Meghna Gulzar. Deepika Padukone fills the shoes of Laxmi Agarwal, an acid-attack survivor, in this film. We have had Parvathy Thiruvothu’s Uyare, a similarly crafted trope from Malayalam cinema, this year. This is a sensitively weaved fictional drama based on real incidents. It feels like an essential story as it never tries to go over the top in a dramatic way, which saves the painstaking effort of the film and doesn’t lose the grip on reality. Let’s hope Chhapaak do justice to its content.

3. Roohi Afza | Hardik Mehta

Rajkummar Rao, Janhvi Kapoor and Pankaj Tripathi

This, Horror comedy-drama from the writer of Trapped, Hardik Mehta, is intriguing. Rajkummar Rao, Janhvi Kapoor and Pankaj Tripathi collaborate together in this film. 6. Laxmi Bomb | Raghava Lawrence

Akshay Kumar, Kiara Advani, Tusshar Kapoor

Laxmi Bomb starring Akshay Kumar - Upcoming Bollywood movies of 2020

It’s a known fact that Akshay Kumar’s script choices are almost always reinvigorating. Laxmi Bomb is the Hindi remake of Raghava Lawrence’s Tamil Film Muni 2: Kanchana who directs the Hindi version too.

This horror-comedy planted the seeds in Tamil cinema for the franchise culture to get animated. While many such franchising attempts went in vain in Tamil cinema, Kanchana franchise found ways to become the blockbusters, even when the quality of the series began to crumble.

Kanchana is a finely designed craft with a certain blend of horror and comedy where, in the remake, Akshay Kumar has all the screen space to occupy himself and is expected to outdo himself once again. The dauntless first look poster has already created an interesting buzz in Bollywood.

7. Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior | Om Raut

Ajay Devgan, Saif Ali Khan, Kajol

This period drama features Ajay Devgn in the title role Tanaji Malusare. The film is based on the life of the unsung warrior in Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj of the Maratha empire.

Om Raut directs this historical drama who is renowned for the critically acclaimed Marathi biographical film Lokmanya: Ek Yug Purush. Ajay Devgn roves through a series of fun-packed lowbrow films along his path and Tanhaji gives the impression of a serious movie in his filmography.

8. Shamshera | Karan Malhotra

Ranbir Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt, Vaani Kapoor

Shamshera, from the director of Agneepath and Brothers, is about dacoit tribe in India and it is plotted during Independence against the British. Ranbir Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt and Vaani Kapoor star in this action-adventure film.

Karan Malhotra directs this film who assisted the directors of Lakshya, Swades, Jodhaa Akbar and many more sensationally striking films. After manifesting that Ranbir can sink his teeth in any versatile roles as he did in Sanju, it is expected that this adventurous drama, where he plays the central character and double role, is definitely set the expectation up a notch.

9. Panga | Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari

Kangana Ranaut, Neena Gupta, Pankaj Tripathi, Richa Chaddha

Panga is a sports comedy, being directed by Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari who is famed for Nil Battey Sannata and Bareilly Ki Barfi. Kangana Ranaut plays the lead role. Panga is based on the life of a Kabbadi player which follows her success and struggles.

10. Malang | Mohit Suri

Aditya Roy Kapur and Disha Patani

It’s a break from the biopic cluster in the above list. Malang is a romantic thriller that is being directed by Mohit Suri. Aditya Roy Kapur and Disha Patani collaborate together in this new film. Mohit is famed for Aashiqui 2, Ek Villain and many interesting films. Aditya and Mohit join once again. Anil Kapoor does an important role in the film.
