Some of the world’s most successful video games like Tomb Raider and Resident Evil have become just as popular in film adaptations. Other movies inspired by video games have not worked out quite as well. For instance, the 1993 Super Mario Bros. feature film is considered to be one of the worst movies of all time. With a plethora of new films based upon video games due for release in the next few years, it’s impossible to predict whether they will become blockbuster successes or whether they will suffer the same fate as Nintendo’s iconic plumbers. But here are four upcoming video game movie adaptations you should look out for.

Minecraft: The Movie

Minecraft is the single best-selling video game of all time and one of the greatest games ever made. The game involves players exploring a pixelated 3D world in which they can find raw materials, build structures, and fight enemies. The plot of the Swedish-American movie sees a teenage girl and her companions attempting to save their Overworld from the evil Ender Dragon’s destructiveness. You’ll have to wait a while to find out if Minecraft: The Movie will be a blockbuster success, though, as it’s not scheduled-for-release until 2022. If you can’t wait that long, you can always play the Minecraft game in the meantime. You can also find similar sandbox games to play, and plenty of other online games at sites like Casumo casino.

Uncharted

The top-rated Uncharted video game series began with Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune in 2007. The action-adventure third-person shooter platform game series follows treasure hunter Nathan Drake as he journeys throughout the world to uncover historical mysteries. The movie is a prequel to the games’ stories, so Drake is much younger. That tweak may help the film to not feel like an Indiana Jones rip-off. But you will have to wait until the end of 2020 to see the film for yourself and decide whether it does justice to the enormously successful game.

Monster Hunter

As you might expect, the series of Monster Hunter games are about hunting down monsters. You get to design characters to track, fight, and capture all manner of grotesque beasts throughout several fantasy lands. The games have little in the way of story, so the movie adaptation is only loosely based on the Monster Hunter games. The fantasy action film’s plot involves a United Nations military team falling into a portal and entering an alternative world in which hunters fight monsters. The team must defend the portal to prevent the monsters from invading earth. Monster Hunter looks set for release in September 2020.

Sonic the Hedgehog

The most famous blue hedgehog in the world is set to hit the silver screen in the 2020 film Sonic the Hedgehog. In the late 1980s, Sega decided it needed a new mascot to compete with Nintendo’s Mario, and in 1991 the first Sonic the Hedgehog video game was launched. It became one of the most successful platform game series of all time. The live-action adventure comedy movie sees the hedgehog from another world arriving on earth to escape his enemies who want to harness the power of Sonic’s super speed. It’s not long before the US government hire the evil Dr. Robotnik to hunt him down. But with the help of a local sheriff, Sonic could evade capture and prevent Robotnik from ruling the world.
