Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse was one of the best films in 2023 so far. The sequel to the beloved 2018 animated film Into the Spider-Verse has enjoyed box office success this summer and was even more critically praised than its stellar predecessor. There are bound to be many Marvel fans dressing up as Miles Morales, Gwen Stacy, and Peter Parker’s version of the web-slinger for Halloween, so this will make the perfect holiday watch. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse release is also a part of the five-year licensing deal between Sony and Netflix.
What is the movie about?
In a different world called Earth-1610, sixteen months after the Alchemax collider was destroyed, Miles Morales meets someone in Brooklyn. He is facing the Spot, a scientist from Alchemax whose body was filled with portal energy when the collider blew up. The Spot says something shocking and blames Miles for his state. During tests of the collider, the Spot brought a spider from Earth-42 into the present day by mistake. The spider bit Miles and gave him Spider-Man powers.
The Spot is then accidentally thrown into a void. From there, he starts a trip through different universes, each with an Alchemax collider to give himself even more power. It is a sequel to the 2018 film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, and it follows Miles Morales as he teams up with Gwen Stacy and other Spider-People from across the multiverse to stop a new villain.
When is the Release Date for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse on Netflix?
While it may sound surprising that a Marvel movie is coming to Netflix, it’s important to remember that Spider-Verse, like all Spider-Man and Spider-Man movies and games, is technically owned by Sony. Sony has an agreement with Netflix that sends its theatrical releases to the platform about five months after their theatrical debuts, which is exactly when Across the Spider-Verse will show up there.
The film has been available on digital and Blu-ray for a while, but now the webtastic film has set its streaming debut on Netflix for later this month. According to Deadline, Across the Spider-Verse will swing onto the streamer on Tuesday, October 31. This is according to a tweet from Netflix on October 17, 2023, which said: “His name is Miles Morales. He was bitten by a radioactive spider. I’m pretty sure you know the rest. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse comes to Netflix in the U.S. on October 31!!!”
If you’d like more ways to watch, Across the Spider-Verse is also available on digital VOD platforms (like YouTube, Amazon Prime Video, Apple, and Vudu), where you can rent the movie or purchase it.

Will There Be a sequel for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse?
It is unclear at this time whether there will be a sequel to Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. However, the film’s directors, Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson, have stated that they have ideas for a sequel and that they are open to the possibility of making one. Additionally, the film’s producers, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, have said that they are interested in exploring the Spider-Verse further and that they believe there are many more stories to tell.
So, while there is no official confirmation of a sequel at this time, it is certainly possible that we will see Miles Morales and his fellow Spider-People again on the big screen in the future.
Will Miles Morales Return as Spider-Man in Upcoming Spider-Man Movies?
Yes, Miles Morales will play Spider-Man again in new films. In fact, he has already been cast in the sequel to Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, which is set to come out in 2024. Sony Pictures has also said that there will be a live-action Spider-Man movie about Miles Morales. But there isn’t a date fixed yet for when that movie comes out.
Miles Morales has become a very well-known figure since he first appeared in Ultimate Comics: Spider-Man in 2011. He is the first African American or Latino Spider-Man, and his character has been praised for its diversity and representation.
