Been in the talks for a long time, and have been hitting tabloids for a greater part of the year for better or for worse, Ana de Armas’ Blonde is almost here. Charting the life of pop-culture legend Marilyn Monroe with an adaptation from the bestselling historical novel by Joyce Carol Oates, Blonde is an unflinching, unfiltered, and provocative look at how Hollywood broke a woman into someone who couldn’t identify with herself.
More than an actress, Marilyn Monroe was touted as a sex symbol in cinema. Born Norma Jeane Mortenson before taking her stage name, she joined the film industry in 1945 and developed what we now know as a versatile career spawning two decades as an actress, singer, and model.
Blonde, directed by Andrew Dominik charts the facade behind the success that Manroe enjoyed on the surface. The glistering smile made millions of women dream about fame, but very few people know the tumultuous mental health trouble she went through before her sad demise at the mere age of 36.
The Netflix Original previously considered actresses like Naomi Watts and Jessica Chastain for the role, but ever since the trailer dropped for the NC-17-rated film, no one has been questioning the casting of Ana de Armas who shines through.
The cast also includes Adrien Brody, Bobby Cannavale, & Caspar Phillipson and is produced by Brad Pitt’s production house Plan B Entertainment.
