All set to be the biggest worldwide release from India in 2022, Ayan Mukerji’s much anticipated ‘Brahmastra Part One: Shiva’ is all set to be finally unleashed. Called a labor of love by many who have been associated with the film, the first part of the Ranbir Kapoor & Alia Bhatt starrer (in a planned trilogy cheekily called the ‘Astraverse’) will kickstart a myth of its own.
Loosely based on Indian mythology, the film was first announced in 2014 as Mukerji called it his passion project. With an estimated budget of around $60 million, the first film is one of the most expensive Indian films ever made. The title, which translates to “the weapon of Brahma” hints toward the mythical weapon of lord Brahma, deemed to have the power to destroy the entire universe if put in the wrong hands.
If the synopsis and the trailer are to be considered, the epic fantasy is a romance between Shiva (Ranbir Kapoor) & Isha (Alia Bhatt), playing against the backdrop of a secret society of humans who are the protectors of Earth. When Shiva is summoned by them due to his association with ‘Fire,’ the clash between the good and bad commences.
Also starring Amitabh Bachchan, Nagarjuna Akkineni, and Mouni Roy, it is also rumored that Bollywood icon Shah Rukh Khan will be doing an extended cameo in the Astraverse. The film arrives at a very difficult time for big-budget Bollywood films, with movies like Shamshera, Laal Singh Chaddha, and others failing to earn more than a few crores; so the expectation for it to work has suddenly skyrocketed.
