I can’t believe that I am saying this in 2022, but Nicholas Stoller’s ‘Bros’ is probably the first major studio-backed romantic comedy about two gay men. Featuring a principal cast that mostly consists of people from the LGBTQ community; and also boosts a behind-the-screen crew of members from the community, the movie stars television sweetheart Billy Eichner and is also co-written by him.

Essentially a rom-com about two grown-up gay men who have closeted their more intimate needs in order to make a name for themselves, Bros is about them finding each other and loving someone other than themselves. However, that’s not it. Eicher has also peppered this delicious romantic comedy with a satirical take on what it is like to be a gay man in contemporary society.

Eicher plays Bobby Lieber, a supremely independent New Yorker who secretly longs for connection when not around his friends. The stars align when he meets Aaron (played by Luke Macfarlane) – a uber good-looking guy whose take on relationships is the same as Bobby. Will these stone-hearted on the outside, but mushy jelly beans on the inside find each other?

Premiered at the 2022 Toronto Internation Film Festival, Bros also stars some incredibly funny people like Kristin Chenoweth, Guy Branum, Ts Madison, Harvey Fierstein, Bowen Yang, Benito Skinner, and Debra Messing, and is currently at a 96% Rotten Tomatoes score. The consensus on the website reads, “Bros marks a step forward in rom-com representation — and just as importantly, it’s a whole bunch of fun to watch.”

Where to watch and stream ‘Bros’ Online?

The only way to watch Bros beginning September 30th, 2022 would be in a movie theatre. Universal Pictures plans to open the rom-com in movie theatres across the US & Canada this Friday, with expansion planned in October throughout the world.

As far as streaming is concerned, the distributor signed a streaming deal with Peacock in 2021 stating that all their theatrical and VOD releases will land on the streamer. ‘Bros’ is currently available to stream on various VOD platforms – Amazon, VUDU, Microsoft, and AMC.
