How to Watch ‘Maggie Moore(s)’?: After directing the great Philip Seymour Hoffman and John Turturro in his debut feature film ‘God’s Pocket,’ Mad Men’s famed actor John Slattery is back behind the camera once again. Starring his co-star Jon Hamm as a widowed cop who has joined a writing class, the little town comedy becomes plagued by the murders of two women named Maggie Moore. The new film gives off a typical Coen Brothers vibe.

Starring Tina Fey as a nosy neighbor who gets entangled in the entire web of lies, deceit, murder, and infidelity, “Maggie Moore(s)” is a small-town murder mystery that defuses the mystery for the viewers and coexists in a world where reality is stranger than fiction.

Jordan Sanders, played by Hamm, is not your ruthless cop; he is trying to find a connection that he hasn’t found yet, especially after his wife’s passing. His peppy sidekick, played by Nick Mohammed, is always on his tail, trying his best to do good by him. However, the two have a deaf killer who has killed two women with the same name to catch and a culprit who is just trying to keep his business going. It’s like a series of errors that result in comedy but also have serious repercussions.

Also starring Micah Stock, Happy Anderson, Mary Holland, Allison Dunbar, Tate Ellington, and Bobbi Kitten, “Maggie Moore(s)” strikes a balance between comedy and drama, thriller and investigation, and almost always gets the job done.

Currently at a 46% Rotten Tomatoes score but with an interesting 83% audience score, “Maggie Moore(s)” is deemed both “crackling” and “disappointing,” with the consensus reading: “Neither funny enough to recommend as a black comedy nor unpredictable enough to work as a mystery, ‘Maggie Moore(s)’ is less than the sum of its parts.” However, if I were you, I’d decide for myself.
