After taking the world by storm with his iconic portrayal of Sheldon Cooper – one of the geeks that made the CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory so popular – Jim Parson faded into the background. He has been voicing and doing Broadways every now and then, but the world awaited with battered breath to see him as a lead in a movie that’s tailor-made for him. With ‘Spoiler Alert,’ that wish comes true.

Based on Michael Ausiello’s best-selling memoir “Spoiler Alert: The Hero Dies,” the film adaptation feels like it is trying to combat the social media outrage about a turn in a movie that shouldn’t be revealed. While a spoiler can ruin one’s experience, trying to dodge it at a time when everyone is a little too cheeky about their opinion of art feels futile.

With the eventual moment of this tale out there, director Michael Showalter, known for the wonderful ‘The Big Sick’, is able to conjure a charming festival yarn that talks about love and loss without worrying to manipulate you or not.

Based on writer Ausiello’s memoirs, it tells the tale of a love that blossoms out of nowhere and reaches a sad untimely end. The honesty of the book, which tells us all about every four-letter word said with feeling, has been translated into the movie about Kit Cowan. The story tells us straight that Cowan was infected by a rare form of cancer and passed away when he was 42. The official synopsis of Spoiler Alert reads, “The story of Michael Ausiello and Kit Cowan’s relationship that takes a tragic turn when Cowan is diagnosed with terminal cancer.”

Spoiler Alert Cast:

Jim Parson was the first one to be cast in Spoiler Alert. The Big Bang Theory actor has been doing smaller roles in movies like The Normal Heart, Hidden Figures, Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile, and lastly, in The Boys in the Band. This would be his first major lead role, and it’s exciting, to say the least. Jim will be essaying the role of writer Michael Ausiello, on whose memoirs the movie is based.

Ben Aldridge will play Cowan, Michael’s partner. This would again be Aldridge’s first major role in a motion picture after doing a few small roles a decade ago and guest starring in Fleabag.

Veteran actors Bill Irwin (the Voice of TARS in Interstellar) & Sally Fields (Forrest Gump, Lincoln) play Bob and Marilyn, Michael’s supporting parents. In addition to important characters played by Josh Pais, Allegra Heart and Jeffery Self.
