Films are art. A beautifully carved arc that follows a person’s story using actors who put their shoes into someone they have never been before. The process of portraying life on screen is tough even for seasoned actors who have been at it for decades. And there are some actors who make it seem like they have been the character they are playing forever. One of those actors has to be Andrea Riseborough, the 40 years old English actress previously seen in The Grudge, Nancy, Death of Stalin, etc. Her latest release “To Leslie” is making all the noise these days and for all good reasons.

Directed by Michael Morris, this film is about a woman who wins a lottery and while enjoying her days in paradise she destroys most of her relationships. Once the money is all spent, she finally comes to her senses and moves back to her hometown to rebuild her life from scratch, seeking redemption.

The film showcases her relationship with her son, the people she had let down, and all while she struggles with addiction. Director Michael Morris who has previously been on some of the very well-known projects such as House of Cards, 13 Reasons Why, Bloodline, etc, has done a phenomenal job presenting to us this very believable world of Leslie.

It is already being said that this is one of the best performances of the year. Andrea is stellar in it and makes it one of her best works to date. Other than Andrea we see a very well-put cast which includes Allison Janney, Marc Maron, Andre Royo, Owen Teague, Stephen Root, James Landry Hebert, Catfish Jean, and Scott Subiono who make this film well worth a watch.
