Director duo Pushkar-Gayathri fired up the screen when they pit two of the biggest South Indian stars – R.Madhavan & Vijay Sethupathi against each other in 2017. Loosely inspired by the folktale of Baital Pachisi, the story finds a police inspector named Vikram, locking horns with a notorious gangster named Vedha in a cheeky battle of wits. The official remake, titled ‘Vikram Vedha’ like the original, is also directed by Pushkar-Gayathri. However, it’s Hrithik Roshan Vs Saif Ali Khan this time around.

Also starring Radhika Apte & Rohit Saraf in prominent roles, the story finds honest cop Vikram having to interrogate the gangster Vedha after he voluntarily surrenders. Vedha, in turn, sits down to narrate three stories to Vikram, forcing him to question his morality and/or his stand on Good Vs. Evil.

Confirmed for production as early as March 2018, the internet has been quite speculative about the casting choice for Vikram and Vedha. While Hrithik was cast to play Vedha and Saif to don the Inspector’s cap, the world wide web felt that it would have been better if their respective roles were swapped.

Interestingly, it was SRK who was initially offered the role, but due to his lack of interest and the second choice of Aamir Khan falling through due to COVID-19, Hrithik was cast in the role in December 2020. This will be the first time Hrithik Roshan will be seen speaking in an Awadhi accent as his character Vedha hails from Kanpur.
