Woody Allen’s next film is going to be comedy-romance starring two time Oscar Winner Christoph Waltz, Louis Garrel, Gina Gershon and Elena Anaya of “The Skin I Live In” fame. The film will be shot in Spain, the production of which will begin in July. Reportedly, the film, as per now, is going to be called Wasp 2019. The film will be produced by Gravier Productions and Mediapro, the Spanish company who previously partnered with Woody Allen in “Vicky Cristina Barcelona” and “Midnight In Paris.”
The upcoming film centers around a married American couple who are attending the San Sebastian Film Festival and get caught up in the beauty of the Spanish city. The husband begins an affair with a beautiful Spanish woman who is a San Sebastian local and the wife begins dating a French movie director. The film’s plot is described as “a comedy-romance that resolves itself in a funny but romantic way.”
The founding partner at Mediapro, Jaume Roures stated, “We’ve been working with Woody Allen for 14 years. His films, like every project the group produces, have a unique personality. This latest movie has all the ingredients to be right up there along with what we’ve become accustomed to from a director of Woody Allen’s talent: an intelligent script and a first-rate international cast. In addition, we’re delighted to be able to shoot the movie in a city such as San Sebastian, which has such strong ties to cinema.”
The announcement of Woody Allen’s next film comes after the filmmaker self-released the trailer for his upcoming and still unreleased film “A Rainy Day in New York,” which stars Elle Fanning, Selena Gomez, and Timothée Chalamet in leading roles.The film is indefinitely shelved by Amazon Studios, after Woody Allen is accused of child molestation charges by his adopted daughter Dylan Farrow.Amazon recently returned the rights to “Rainy Day” back to Woody Allen.
Christoph Waltz is easily the leading name in Woody Allen’s new cast. Waltz most recently appeared in “Alita: Battle Angel” and also filmed a small role in Wes Anderon’s next film, “The French Dispatch.” Waltz has won two Academy Awards for the Best Supporting Actor starring in Quentin Tarantino’s “Inglourious Basterds” and “Django Unchained.”
