Read the Bong Joon-ho Open Letter that pleads cinephiles attending Cannes to avoid giving spoilers

So Open Letter’s from film directors is now a thing. After Tarantino’s Open Letter pleading film goers present at Cannes to hold it in their pants till the film gets a worldwide release, South-Korean director Bong Joon-ho has also penned something that says much of the same. However, the Bong Joon-ho open letter is a little creative than you might think. The letter asks film fans and movie critics/bloggers to mention only the parts of his newest film “Parasite” that can be seen in the trailer.

The letter clearly understands the value of watching a much-anticipated film without the prior knowledge of having read numerous things that almost reveal the true narrative threads the film leads to. He focuses on saying that many people have started steering clear of their favorite movie websites just to stay away from the conflict that drives the entire film together. Moreover, he says that cinephiles have now succumbed to blasting music in their headphones so that they don’t steep over someone similar to the guy who shouted: “Bruce Willis is a Ghost” when The Sixth Sense came out back in 1999.

The Bong Joon-Ho Open Letter:

Bong Joon-Ho’s Parasite is competing for the prestigious Palme D’or and from the looks of it seems to be correctly noted as an uncategorizable film. The official synopsis reads “All unemployed, Ki-taek’s family takes a peculiar interest in the wealthy and glamorous Parks for their livelihood until they get entangled in an unexpected incident.” While the poster gives an idea that this might be more close to Greek filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos‘ Dogtooth, one can always expect the unexpected from Bong Joon-Ho who is finally back at making films in his native language after making two English-language films.

Bong Joon-Ho’s Parasite premieres on 21st May 2019 at the Cannes film festival.
