Hell’s Paradise Jigokuraku (Season 1), Episode 11 Recap:

“Weak and Strong”

The episode begins with Doshi attacking Chobei and the latter on the ground, bleeding. Doshi lets his guard down and bends to pick up Chobei to throw him in the pit, but Chobei attacks him. Chobei orders Toma to kill the other monsters. Doshi is surprised as Chobei’s throat has regenerated. Doshi wonders if Chobei had merged with the plants while he was in the pit. Doshi senses danger as he can sense Chobei’s Tao growing stronger by the minute. He decides to kill Chobei but fails as he sees his Tao growing. Toma is worried for Chobei as he knows his brother is a master of adaptation, but if he pushes his body more, it could prove fatal.

Doshi asks Chobei if he is afraid of his body changing, and he says he is not. He tells him a monster will not understand him, asks Doshi to show more of his abilities, and attacks Doshi. He hits Doshi’s navel, making him bleed. Chobei can see the Tao now. He also learns how to use it and uses it against Doshi. Doshi is shocked to see a normal human being capable of using Tao. Chobei asks Doshi where the Tensen were. Toma is still worried for Chobei; he feels the scars on his body are growing. Toma feels his brother is not the same anymore.

Gantetsusai slashes the monsters and asks Mei if he is learning to master Tao. She says, “Strong, Strong, no, Strong, Weak.” They see Gabimaru attack the monsters, and Gantetsusai asks if he is doing it, and Mei has the same response. Fuchi analyses the monster’s bodies and informs Gabimaru that each monster has a different weak point. Gabimaru realizes Mei is not an ordinary human being. Mei starts to cry, and Gantetsusai asks him not to make her cry, as he is his underling. Gabimaru tells him he was nobody’s underling.

One of the monsters grabs Mei and tells her he has secretly been searching for her. He tells the group that it has been centuries since Mei was banished, and he had left Horai. He tells them they were forbidden from looking for Mei by Rien, and he is happy that they reunited. The monster tells them that Mei feeds off humans like Tensen and asks Mei to get back to Horai and lead them.

Gabimaru contemplates what needs to be done. He impulsively protects Mei. The monster tells him that he is making a mistake. Gabimaru says he knows better than to get involved, but he cannot make Mei cry again. The monster releases butterflies and tells them that he has come to turn them into Tan and will take Mei away. The monsters begin their attack, and Gabimaru wonders how to attack. Gantetsusai makes a move but is thrown back after being attacked by Tao. Gabimaru tells him not to be reckless, and Gantetsusai realizes this is Tao.

The monsters ask them that if Mei is not their concern, why are they protecting her? Gabimaru realizes that he has changed after arriving on the island. He tells the monsters that helping someone who has helped you is the right thing to do. The monsters tell Gabimaru that Mei is essential in training the Doshi to use Tao. The monsters tell them there are five steps in achieving Tao: Doin, haiku, suits, shorten, and bochu jutsu. He explains that bochu jutsu is the most important as one requires a sexual partner to achieve this.

He goes on to say that each person has a stronger yin or yang point, and through intercourse, this is circulated and balances the yin and yang energy. They tell them that Rien had given two choices to Mei – either to die like a dog or be a trainer for the Doshi. She had chosen the latter. Gantetsusai tells them that he understands why Mei was afraid. Gantetsusai makes a hasty move against the merged monsters.

Gabimaru can hazily see the Tao, but he knows he should be able to see it properly to make the right attacks. Fuchi explains to Gabimaru that one needs to have both strengths and weaknesses at the same time to be able to see Tao. He asks Gabimaru to weaken his mind. After Mei touches him, he starts to weaken his mind, and he can see Tao. Mei says to Fuchi that Gabimaru’s Tao is big. Gabimaru dodges the monsters Tao sends. Gabimaru realizes that no amount of training has made him feel this way. He is capable of sensing everything around him.

Gabimaru uses the power and attacks to take down both monsters. He is happy that he is on the same level as the Tensen. He questions the monster where the Tensen is. The monster pretends to cooperate and tells him that three Doshi, including him, were sent to spy on humans as the Tensen worried the humans would be a threat this time. As she speaks, he attacks, but Gantetsusai is ready to fight. But he is surprised by the attacks and is frozen. Gabimaru makes a move helping Gantetsusai kill one Doshi. The episode ends with Sagiri and the group arriving at Horai. As they arrive, Hoko is attacked by his head being chopped off.

Hell’s Paradise: Jigokuraku (Season 1), Episode 11 Ending, Explained:

Gabimaru was already a strong character, from his skills to the power of his mind. Now he can see Tao and understands how it works. Mei also says that Gabimaru has a big Tao. Gabimaru will probably be undefeatable while facing the Tensen. He is much more prepared to take Tensen on. Mei might join hands with the humans in defeating Tensen once and for all.

The ending is left on a cliffhanger as Hoko’s head is chopped off. The chances of him being dead are high as he was attacked by one of the Tensen – Mu Dan. Sagiri’s group has the theoretical knowledge of Tao, but they are yet to experience it, and it will be interesting to see how they will face Tensen.

Chobei, Toma, Gabimaru, and Gantetsusai will start to move towards the Horai with the same mission of destroying the Tensen. We are yet to see Shion and Nurugai make a move or fight a Tensen/Doshi. Among the main characters, Nurugai is yet to learn the art of seeing Tao. Yuzuriha needs to learn the art of Tao, but seeing Tao and considering her character, she may be one of the first few to be killed. Many intense battles await; the remaining alive will probably come together and fight the Tensen.
