How I Met Your Father (Season 2), Episode 3, Recap:
The Reset Button
Future Sophie told her son that by the time she turned 40, she had kissed every single one of her friends. This would have included Ellen, and her son raised that question. Sophie asked a counter question that showed her reply was in the affirmative.
In the present day, an ecstatic Sophie was given an address and an invitation. It was from the people who purchased her photo. They had invited her to their penthouse to hear the photographer’s story behind the click. Sophie was told that she had to get the subject to the dinner. That proved to be a problem, as Jesse refused to go. He claimed it was the premise of a horror movie to have “two unsuspecting fools” invited to a rich person’s tower.
Sophie then convinced him as friends helped each other. She even said she would like to cash any points despite things getting weird. Jesse agreed to accompany Sophie but informed her he would carry a knife with him.
Later that evening, Sophie and Jesse visited the penthouse and ate raw bison that was served as a welcome dish. Jesse suspected that their hosts were cannibals. The couple praised Jesse for being a real man and were quite flirty with him. Sophie concluded the rich couple wanted to bang them but received a quizzical look from Jesse. This was because she had used the word “them.”
After a while, Jesse considered leaving, but Sophie asked him to stay. The wealthy couple offered Jesse a tour and gave him the freedom to speak as much as he wanted. Sophie was denied the freedom of speech while on the house tour.
Here, Sophie and Jesse learned that the rich guy (Warren) was a men’s rights extremist. He wanted to use Jesse’s image as the face of the movement he was leading. When the couple went out to serve dinner, Sophie and Jesse researched Warren and saw his podcast. This new knowledge caused them to want to leave. However, Sophie wanted her painting with her rather than as the face of such a movement.
A distraction was the way to go. Hannah pandered to Warren and said she would ditch her career and focus on finding a husband to tell her what to do. She was even game to appear on Warren’s podcast, even agreeing to his rule for the female guest rule, i.e., wear only a bikini. When his wife praised her, Sophie learned she was mayor, and then her senses came back. As Sophie gave Warren the truth, the wealthy couple looked shocked. They saw Jesse struggling to get the picture off the wall and kicked Sophie, Jesse, and the picture out.
Valentina showed up to take her stuff from Charlie’s apartment. Ellen came in and told the two that she had two extra seats, as Rachel’s friends had bailed on a plan. Valentina enquired if she could come if she got a date. This saw Charlie spring into action. However, as he didn’t want to date alone, he begged Sid and Hannah to tag along.
When Alice, Charlie’s date, showed up, Hannah saw her as perfect since she had flyer miles. She nudged Sid to overlook Alice’s weird behavior as the potential new entry to their group could have provided the solutions to their long-distance challenges. Charlie saw nothing in Alice and wondered what Hannah and Sid were seeing. He then confessed that he wasn’t ready to date. Furthermore, he told Alice he didn’t think they were a good fit, even if he was ready. Alice then spilled that she knew Sid was after her miles and left with Hannah.
Valentina dated ‘Rando,’ a character with a yellow emoji face, on her double date with Rachel and Ellen. The gathering saw an argument featuring psychics vs. psychologists. This feud ended when they asked Ellen to pick a side and found common ground over her indecisiveness. ‘Rando’s emoji kept changing over the course of the episode.
How I Met Your Father (Season 2), Episode 3, Ending, Explained:
Sophie got her picture and walked back with Jesse. He told her he would have called Meredith if he knew she would be coming back. Sophie accepted that Meredith was the love of Jesse’s life, and she hit the metaphorical reset button. She then placed her picture on the boot of a cab, and it drove away, leaving her empty-handed.
Sophie then went back to her apartment and saw that Valentina was with ‘Rando.’ Valentina revealed she knew she would end up with Charlie, even though they wanted different things. She also claimed Charlie would take a long time to get back out there. However, just as she said that Charlie introduced himself to a girl at Pemberton. Sid and Hannah apologized to Charlie for using him and gave a gift to him for a perfect first date. Alice got her miles but requested the group not to ask how.
Where did Sophie’s picture go?
Sophie lost her picture thanks to a moment of carelessness. She kept it on the boot of a car which drove off. She couldn’t track the car since she didn’t take down the cab number. Hence, the location is unknown, and the only answer is this- Sophie’s picture has taken a tour of New York along with the yellow cab.
Who called Jesse?
The identity of Jesse’s caller was not revealed. Jesse went into the subway to take the call.
Will Valentina regret not getting back with Charlie?
Valentina moved out, and her eagerness to get back out there seemed to have spurred Charlie on. Charlie had a failed date with Alice, but he boldly stepped out of his comfort zone. This could be problematic for Valentina’s vision, at least in the short term. In fact, given how things stand, Charlie has approached two women, and Valentina met and slept with ‘Rando.’
Did Ellen break up with Rachel?
Obviously, this was about to happen with Ellen asked to pick between her friend and girlfriend. However, they found common ground. Ellen kept pushing it and allowed them to diss her. At the same time, the psychologist vs. psychic debate quickly came back. An ugly situation and tough choices were averted when Valentina’s tongue slipped, and she suggested that Ellen talk to a psychologist. She then admitted that some problems are beyond psychics, and Rachel seemed happy with that stance. It will be interesting to see what happens next week in Episode 4.
