Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese Join Forces Again for Frank Sinatra Biopic

This seems like the era of musical biopics, as every filmmaker is depicting the journey of musical legends. The idea of another musical legends biopic is going around, and this time, it is Martin Scorsese who is planning to bring the biopic chronicling the life of legendary singer Frank Sinatra. The visionary auteur will be directing his frequent collaborator, Leonardo DiCaprio, on an upcoming project. Undoubtedly, whenever the actor-director duo come together, they deliver something incredible. However, there are some hurdles they need to overcome before shooting the film.

What’s cooking between Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio regarding the Frank Sinatra Biopic?

According to Variety, Martin Scorsese will direct the Frank Sinatra biopic. Leonardo DiCaprio will star as “Ol’ Blue Eyes” in the central role. Fellow Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence will portray Sinatra’s mistress-turned-second wife, Ava Gardner. The filmmaker is planning to shoot the Sinatra biopic concurrently with his planned Jesus movie, which will reportedly begin production later this year in the Middle East.

From premise to star-cast, everything is set. However, there is something that has become an obstacle to the commencement of the film. Frank Sintara’s daughter, Tina Sinatra, controls his estate and reportedly has yet to give her blessing to the biopic. Despite that one issue, the movie has already drawn interest from top distributors due to the inclusion of DiCaprio and Lawrence, with Sony considered to be the frontrunner in acquiring the biopic. In fact, Apple has also expressed interest in his upcoming project. Apple and Scorsese previously collaborated for the 2023 film Killers of the Flower Moon, which was nominated for the Oscars. 

The Oscar-nominated film also featured DiCaprio in the lead role alongside Robert de Niro and the Oscar-nominated Lily Gladstone. Killers of the Flower Moon is the epic Western crime drama that became a critically acclaimed success for its chronicle of the Osage Nation murders in post-World War I Oklahoma. 

Regarding his upcoming biopic, it will center on the life of Frank Sinatra, an American singer and actor. He was initially nicknamed “Chairman of the Board” and later called “Ol’ Blue Eyes”. He is regarded as one of the most popular entertainers of the mid-20th century. Sinatra is among the world’s best-selling music artists, with an estimated 150 million record sales globally. He is prominently known for hits such as “My Way,” “New York, New York,” and “That’s Life.” Sinatra also had a distinguished acting career, notably starring as Danny Ocean in Ocean’s 11 and High Society opposite Grace Kelly, Bing Crosby and Louis Armstrong.
