In “Perfect Family” episodes 9 & 10, we see the back story of Jin Hyeok and Hyeon Min. At this point, we, as the viewers, get clarity about who means well for Seon Hui, but Seon Hui is still confused. As Hyeon Min tells Seon Hui how she got adopted, Jin Hyeok tells a different story to Detective Dong Ho. The Detective believes Jin Hyeok’s story and comes to rescue Seon Hui. However, Hyeon Min and Jin Hyeok fight and fall into the ocean. Meanwhile, we learn what kind of a person Hyeon Min was before he went to prison. We also know how Hyeon Min and Jin Hyeok crossed paths and got close to each other.

Perfect Family Episode 9 Recap:
The episode opens with Jin Hyeok and Eun Ju telling Dong Ho about their relationship with Hyeon Min. According to Jin Hyeok, Hyeon Min killed his son and spent 12 years in prison. After his release from prison, Hyeon Min threatened Jin Hyeok, asking him to abide by his demands. If Jin Hyeok is unwilling to meet Heyon Min’s demands, he threatens to kill Seon Hui.
One day, Hyeon Min meets Jin Hyeok and asks to pay money in exchange for Jin Hyeok to continue raising Seon Hui. The money would buy Hyeon Min’s silence as he won’t reveal the truth to Seon Hui. To make this work, Hyeon Min asks Jin Hyeok to join forces. When Gyeong Ho’s house is burned down, Eun Ju visits the house and sees Gyeong Ho dead.
Can Dong Ho rescue Seon Hui?
As Eun Ju wonders what to do, Hyeon Min arrives and asks Eun Ju to leave. If Eun Ju does not go, Eun Ju or Seon Hui will become a murderer. So Hyeon Min promises to take care of the situation and asks to be paid for the job. The next day, the news breaks out that there is a fire at Gyeong Ho’s house, killing the entire family. On this day, when Su Yeon arrives, Hyeon Min is at Jin Hyeok’s house.
Hyeon Min threatens Jin Hyeok and Eun Ju, saying the black box in his car has captured Seon Hui, leaving Gyeong Ho’s house covered in blood. The box also captured Eun Ju entering and exiting the home. To protect Seon Hui, Hyeon Min set the house on fire. Furthermore, Hyeon Min volunteers to deal with Su Yeon as she is an accomplice in the crime. For all this, Hyeon Min demands money from Jin Hyeok.
The day Seon Hui sees peanut powder in her house, she assumes her parents are trying to kill Seon Hui. The assumptions become strong when Seon Hui overhears Eun Ju and Jin Hyeok discussing about killing someone quickly. It turns out that since Hyeon Min and Seon Hui have the same allergy to peanuts, Eun Ju wants to kill Hyeon Min so they can be left alone. Detective Dong Ho is ready to help Jin Hyeok and sends a team to Seon Hui’s location.
Once Jin Hyeok arrives at the area, he insists on going inside the building to save Seon Hui. Once Jin Hyeok is inside, Hyeon Min is annoyed and tells Jin Hyeok that he only wants revenge on rich people like him. Here, Hyeon Min calls Jin Hyeok as Choi Hyeon Min. At this moment, a cop from the outside takes a shot at Hyeon Min.
Is Hyeon Min as innocent as he claims to be?
Immediately, Seon Hui runs towards Jin Hyeok (Choi Hyeon Min), stops midway, and returns to Hyeon Min. Now, Seon Hui tries to stop the bleeding as Hyeon Min reminisces about his time with young Seon Hui. Jin Hyeok (Choi Hyeon Min) approaches Hyeon Min, and they fight. As they continue fighting, they both end up falling off the building and into the water below.
Soon, the cops arrive to check on Seon Hui. In a flashback, we see Hyeon Min take a young Seon Hui to Hyeon Min’s mother’s house. There, Hyeon Min asks his mother to take care of Seon Hui as Hyeon Min needs to go somewhere. After leaving his mother’s house, Hyeon Min bets on horse racing. Unfortunately, Hyeon Min loses money.
As he walks by, Hyeon Min bumps into a drunk man, so Hyeon Min hits and mugs the man. At the prosecutor’s office, the one handling Hyeon Min’s case is Choi Hyeon Min (Jin Hyeok). Thanks to Jin Hyeok (Choi Hyeon Min), Hyeon Min’s case was dropped. However, Jin Hyeok’s (Choi Hyeon Min) colleague recognizes Hyeon Min as a man who is famous for mugging people. When Jin Hyeok (Choi Hyeon Min) drinks with his colleagues, Hyeon Min keeps an eye on Jin Hyeok (Choi Hyeon Min).
Soon, Jin Hyeok (Choi Hyeon Min) exits the restaurant. Hyeon Min hits Jin Hyeok’s (Choi Hyeon Min) head, making him fall unconscious. Afterward, Hyeon Min picks up Jin Hyeok’s (Choi Hyeon Min) business card. In the epilogue, Dong Ho has a son living with his mother. It seems Dong Ho and his wife are separated. However, Dong Ho wants to get back together with his family. But his wife asks Dong Ho not to call their son.
Perfect Family Episode 10 Recap:
The episode begins with Hyeon Min picking up Jin Hyeok’s (Choi Hyeon Min) business card. The story continues in a flashback. Now, Jin Hyeok (Choi Hyeon Min) is in the hospital getting treated for a head injury. What Jin Hyeok (Choi Hyeon Min) and his family think is that he fell after getting drunk and hurt his head. At the hospital, Hyeon Min turns up with Seon Hui and bumps into Jin Hyeok (Choi Hyeon Min).
As they converse, Hyeon Min tries to win over Jin Hyeok (Choi Hyeon Min) with sympathy, saying Hyeon Min barely makes money as he sells life insurance and can’t get many people to sign up for it. Next, Hyeon Min asks Jin Hyeok (Choi Hyeon Min) to watch Seon Hui while Hyeon Min gets his allergy check-up. Seeing Sang Ho (Jin Hyeok’s son) and Seon Hui bonding, Jin Hyeok agrees.
How does Hyeon Min win over Jin Hyeok?
Hyeon Min visits the supermarket and gets snacks for Sang Ho and Seon Hui. On purpose, Hyeon Min brings peanut-filled chocolate, knowing that Seon Hui is allergic. When Seon Hui is in Sang Ho’s care, Seon Hui collapses after eating peanut chocolate. Since it is a severe allergic reaction, Seon Hui needs to stay in the hospital.
Using this, Hyeon Min starts worrying about the money required to pay Seon Hui’s hospital fees. So, Jin Hyeok (Choi Hyeon Min) makes his colleagues and friends sign up for life insurance to help Hyeon Min. Hyeon Min also receives free therapy with Eun Ju at her clinic. However, everyone around Jin Hyeon (Choi Hyeon Min) and Eun Ju feel that something is off with Hyeon Min.
Soon, Eun Ju invites Seon Hui and Hyeon Min home for dinner. At dinner, Hyeon Min says Seon Hui has never eaten home-cooked meals from her mother, as Seon Hui’s mother was bedridden after Seon Hui was born. So Eun Ju asks Seon Hui to come over anytime and play with Sang Ho. Meanwhile, Hyeon Min pretends to be the prosecutor, Choi Hyeon Min (Jin Hyeok). Now, some goons have realized Hyeon Min is a fake prosecutor committing life insurance fraud. The goons beat Hyeon Min as he needed to pay back the borrowed money. They agree to kill Hyeon Min’s mother or child to get life insurance money and pay back the debt.
Perfect Family Episode 10 Ending Explained:
Will Jin Hyeok confront Hyeon Min?
Hyeon Min takes Seon Hui to the ocean, but he can’t kill her. At that time, Jin Hyeok arrives with his family to go fishing. The entire group goes out fishing. On Hyeon Min’s phone, the goons are on call listening to the conversations. The goons realize Hyeon Min is using an honest prosecutor as a witness to make sure Seon Hui’s death is proven to be an accident. Once the group arrives at the fishing spot, Hyeon Min tries to kill Seon Hui, but Sang Ho interrupts at that very moment.
Jin Hyeok (Choi Hyeon Min) and Hyeon Min talk. Jin Hyeok advises Hyeon Min to live for Seon Hui. The goons continue to trouble Hyeon Min. Meanwhile, Jin Hyeok’s colleagues inform him that Hyeon Min is embezzling the money. Despite that, Jin Hyeok gives Hyeon Min another chance. Hyeon Min has an office with a chance of a short circuit as the wiring is terrible. When Hyeon Min calls to visit his new office, Jin Hyeok visits and confronts Hyeon Min about insurance fraud. That night, Jin Hyeok tells Eun Ju about his sibling who accidentally died. It turns out that Hyeon Min reminds Jin Hyeok of his brother, as Jin Hyeok’s brother often used to get in trouble.
It reached the point where Jin Hyeok’s mother stopped believing anything Jin Hyeok’s brother had to say. One day, the police called Jin Hyeok’s mother to say that her son had accidentally died when he was fighting with some other kids. The next day, Hyeon Min takes Seon Hui to Sang Ho’s school. There, Hyeon Min asks Sang Ho to help him in his office. Once in the office, Hyeon Min leaves Seon Hui and Sang Ho inside to hang out and walks out the door.
After the series began with a revenge plot and the murder of Gyeong Ho, we are now discovering the true story of Jin Hyeok and Hyeon Min. At first, Hyeon Min seems like a person with Seon Hui’s best interests at heart, but in the last two episodes, we see Hyeon Min’s manipulation. Hyeon Min manipulated Seon Hui so much that she believed Jin Hyeok and Eun Ju were evil.
However, with Hyeon Min’s back story, we see Hyeon Min did not hesitate much to kill Seon Hui for life insurance money. Hyeon Min and Jin Hyeok have fallen into the ocean, and we are unsure if either has survived. We also see how kind Jin Hyeok and Eun Ju are, especially since the series has portrayed them as eerie characters until now. In the next two episodes, we will see how everything comes together. We also need to see if justice will be served and if the truth about Hyeon Min will come out.
