Guy Ritchie has one of the most recognizable cinematic styles. Be it his witty banter-style dialogues, hilarious character names, and flashy editing choices, he always promises a solid dose of entertainment. The same qualities are reflected in his sophomore feature, “Snatch,” which is just as supremely enjoyable as it was during its release. Told in a non-linear style, “Snatch” is one of the most electrifyingly hilarious crime comedies whose pace might be hard to keep up with. From Brad Pitt to Benicio Del Toro, from Jason Statham to Stephen Graham, the cast is packed with actors who went on to achieve an iconic status.

What happens in Guy Ritchie’s ‘Snatch’?

On the surface, Guy Ritchie’s “Snatch” might seem a little all over the place because of its insistent banter. So, let’s try to make sense of its myriad of idiosyncratic characters. The 2000 film primarily follows two boxing promoters, Turkish (Jason Statham) and Tommy (Stephen Graham), as they get pressured by a ruthless gangster, Brick Top (Alan Ford), with a strange ask. Brick Top wants Turkish’s fighter Gorgeous George (Adam Fogerty), to enter a match against one of his boxers. Soon after, Turkish sends George & Tommy to get hold of a new caravan from a group of pikeys on their campsite.

Meanwhile, Franky Four-Fingers (Benicio del Toro) leads a group of robbers dressed as Orthodox Jews in Antwerp, Belgium, to steal a particular diamond. The robbers work under the orders of Cousin Avi (Dennis Farina), a Jewish-American jeweler & an organized crime group member from New York. After the robbery, Franky goes to London to meet Doug The Head (Mike Reid) for their diamond deal. However, along the way, a Russian robber tells Franky to get hold of a gun from ex-KGB member Boris The Blade (Rade Serbedzija). Then, the robber calls Boris and tells him to steal the diamond from Franky.

George’s Caravan

The pikeys sell a faulty caravan to George & Tommy, who realize it only afterward. They ask for a refund, and the pikeys refuse that. So, to settle this issue, George gets in a bare-knuckle boxing fight with one of the hippies, Mickey O’Neil(Brad Pitt). Mickey knocks out George with a single punch. Turkish realizes that he & Tommy are out of options for the fight. So, he asks Mickey to replace George. Mickey agrees to do so in exchange for a caravan for his mother. Brick Top agrees under a condition: Mickey must throw the fight in the fourth round to help him in his bet.

Franky’s Diamond

According to a fellow robber’s suggestion, Franky meets Boris to get a revolver. In exchange, Boris asks Franky to place a bet on his behalf in an unlicensed boxing fight at a bookie to whom he owes money. Then, Boris hires small-time crooks Vinny (Robbie Gee) & Sol (Lennie James) to rob Franky when he meets the bookies. With Tyrone (Ade) as their driver, Vinny & Sol show up at the bookies to learn that ‘all bets are off’ because of George’s fight cancellation, which means there’s no money for them to steal. Somehow, with Tyrone’s help, they kidnap Frankie & flee the scene.

Who stole the diamond?

Sol & Vinny return to Boris with the diamond. But they demand half the money after trading the diamond. During this conversation, Vinny utters Boris’ name, which means masked Frankie knows his identity. So, in order to not get exposed, Boris shoots Frankie without realizing he has the code for the case with the diamond. Regardless, he recovers the diamond and leaves with it. Cousin Avi is aware of Franky’s gambling addiction. So, to receive the diamond, he personally heads to London with his bodyguard, Rosebud (Sam Douglas), but can’t find Frankie. Subsequently, Doug’s daughters suggest hiring Bullet-Tooth Tony (Vinnie Jones) for their quest.

Mickey’s Fight

Unlike what Mickey promised, he enters the fight and knocks his opponent down in the fourth round, which enrages Brick Top. So, he orders Turkish to get Mickey to play in an upcoming fight and go down in the fourth round. When Turkish & Tommy request Mickey to do so, Mickey asks for an even more expensive caravan in return. Turkish agrees to bet him for it. But in that strange bet, Turkish loses. Since Boris has frozen his savings, he can’t convince Mickey to fight. Meanwhile, through the security footage at the bookies, Brick Top learns about Tyrone, Sol, and Vinny’s robbery. So, he sends his men to kidnap Tyrone. They shoot him to send a message across.

Who’s got the diamond?

When Brick Top threatens to kill Tyrone, Sol & Vinny, Sol makes a deal for their lives: to get back the stolen diamond within 48 hours. Later, Turkish tells Brick Top about his failure to convince Mickey for another fight. So, Brick Top sends his men to destroy Turkish’s arcade and to burn down Mickey’s mother’s caravan, which kills her. Meanwhile, Bullet-Tooth Tony & Avi look around the city for Frankie. Eventually, Boris comes to meet Avi & Doug. They kidnap Boris and get hold of the diamond from his case.

Sol, Vinny & Tyrone follow Bullet-Tooth Tony’s car to learn about Boris’ kidnapping. Meanwhile, Turkish & Tommy travel to meet Boris. On the road, Tommy throws out Turkish’s milk carton, which falls on Bullet-Tooth Tony’s car’s windscreen. So, they get into an accident, which kills Rosebud. Masked Boris escapes their car but gets hit by Sol & Vinny’s car. Sol, Vinny, and Tyrone enter the nearby pub with masks on to intimidate Bullet-Tooth Tony. But Tony realizes their guns are fake and makes them leave without even lifting a finger.

Who leaves with the diamond case?

Avi acquires the diamond case, but Boris catches him from one side with an assault rifle, while Tyrone, Sol & Vinny catch him from the other side. Tony kills Boris and wounds Tyrone. Right after, Sol & Vinny flee the scene with the diamond. Vinny hides the diamond in his pants, which makes it hard to recover. Outside, when Tony catches them, they claim that the diamond is at the pawn shop. In the shop, they claim that a dog ate the diamond. Then, suddenly, the dog starts biting them. So, Vinny recovers the diamond and hands it over to Avi. This time, the dog snatches it from them and runs away. As a result, Avi impulsively starts shooting everywhere and ends up killing Bullet-Tooth Tony. So, losing hope, he returns to the U.S.

Snatch (2000) Movie Ending Explained:

Who gets the diamond in the end?

In the boxing match, Mickey is required to go down in the fourth round. Otherwise, it won’t bode well for him, Turkish, Tommy, and the hippies. During the match, Mickey plays as expected of him until the fourth round. But he suddenly starts senselessly beating his opponent, which annoys Brick Top. After the opponent knocks him, Mickey knocks down the opponent with a single punch. So, Turkish & Tommy get out, thinking Brick Top’s men will now kill him. To their surprise, Mickey masterminded this match. So, the pikeys kill Brick Top & his men.

All this time, Mickey bet on himself to win, which earned him & other pikeys a whole lot of money. So, they leave the campsite with their money. Later, Turkish & Tommy return to the campsite, followed by a couple of cops, who ask for the purpose of their visit. Suddenly, the dog who ate the diamond shows up there. Turkish claims Tommy came there to get back his dog. While driving back with the dog, the pair sees Tyrone, Sol, and Vinny getting arrested for hiding Franky & Tony’s bodies. Turkish & Tommy take the dog to the vet to help with the squeaky toy it swallowed and discover the diamond. Then, they meet Doug to get it sold. So, in the end, Cousin Avi gets hold of the diamond.
