The Perfect Couple ‘Netflix’ Miniseries Recap:

What is the Netflix miniseries The Perfect Couple about?

The Perfect Couple begins with an introduction to our central characters. Greer Garrison Winbury (Nicole Kidman) is a famous novelist, literally worshipped by many for her blissful, happily-ever-after love stories. The Nantucket matriarch lives a dream-like life with her perfect family, which includes her husband Tag Winbury (Liev Schreiber) and her three sons—Thomas (Jack Reynor), Benji (Billy Howie), and Will (Sam Nivola). Tag is a pothead with a low-key, self-absorbed personality who drifts through his day, following his very particular and demanding wife’s instructions.

Thomas, the impulsive, snobby older son with a motor mouth, reeks of privilege. He is married to Abby (Dakota Fanning), who is heavily pregnant and walks around with a snobby, Karen-like attitude, trying to shadow her mother-in-law. Benji is engaged to Amelia Sacks (Eve Hewson), a beautiful, down-to-earth girl whose personality radiates wherever she goes. While Amelia finds the Winbury family a little odd and sometimes difficult to be around, she is just happy to be with Benji, who is deeply in love with her.

Will, the youngest of the three brothers, has a very meek personality and is easily overwhelmed by his immediate environment. The episode also introduces us to other characters, such as the Winbury family’s head housekeeper, Gosia (Irina Dubova), who has been with the family for a long time. The Winburys heavily rely on her, even for minor inconveniences. Isabel Nallet (Isabelle Adjani), a recurring family friend, also tags along with the Winburys and seems to have a very close bond with almost everyone she meets. We also meet Shooter Dival (Ishaan Khattar), Benji’s best friend, and Merritt Monaco (Megan Fahy), Amelia’s best friend and maid of honor.

As Amelia and Benji are set to be married, we see the Winburys surrounded by their friends and family, celebrating the bride and groom’s special day. It is the rehearsal dinner party, and everyone seems to be drinking champagne, dancing, and simply enjoying themselves to the fullest. However, things get really weird and messy when, the following day, a dead body is found on the shore, leading the police to suspect everyone in the Winbury family and beyond.

The Perfect Couple Episode 1 “Happy Wedding Eve” Recap:

The episode moves forward with Deputy Carl (Nick Searcy) getting a call from fellow officers about a washed-up dead body found on the Winburys’ private seashore. He then calls his boss, Dan Carter (Michael Beach), to share the news. However, Dan is not keen on using his 4th of July holiday to work. Before leaving for the investigation, Dan informs his daughter Chloe (Mia Isaac) about a possible cancellation of her catering duties at the Winbury wedding due to unfortunate circumstances.

We briefly see Chloe freaking out at the news as she checks the bloodstains on her white uniform. At the possible crime scene, Dan meets Officer Nikki Henry (Donna Lynne Champlin), who will be leading the ongoing investigation. After going through the initial checks, we learn that, along with the body, the officers also found a washed-up male blazer, a phone, and an oyster knife.

The story proceeds with Dan and Henry interrogating each and every member of the Winbury family, along with the employees who were overlooking the catering and wedding services. In the interrogation room, Roger Pelton—the wedding planner—Gosia, and a few Winbury family members confirm that Greer is the true matriarch of the family, with wealth overflowing everywhere. She is the one who decides everything for everyone in the family.

Although she is not fond of Amelia and Benji’s union, she will do everything in her power to protect her reputation as a public figure. These members also admit to having a soft spot for Tag, who is perceived as a “DILF.” The episode also establishes the dysfunctional nature of the family, which is not only chaotic but also reeks of selfishness and a desire to save one’s own skin from getting called out for anything.

What does Greer discover about Tag?

In one of the scenes, we also learn that Greer discovers Tag has been having an affair when the family jeweler arrives with the wedding rings. When the jeweler asks why Greer is not wearing the bracelet Tag got for her, Greer quickly checks Tag’s office, only to find a receipt for the purchased bracelet worth a whopping 80 grand. This disappoints Greer, and eventually, her anger comes out on Benji when he approaches her to discuss her indifference towards his soon-to-be wife. Greer feels that Amelia is not trying hard enough to be part of the family as she believes she should and demands that Benji speak to his wife rather than call out his mother.

Why is Amelia feeling odd about getting married?

After welcoming Amelia’s parents, Bruce (Michael McGrady) and Karen (Dendrie Taylor), the Winburys also greet Merritt and Shooter, who have arrived together. As the day goes by, we see Thomas asking his father for a small loan so he can buy an apartment that Abby wants. Later, while unwinding by the pool, Amelia shares with Merritt that she is not in love with Benji, who is head over heels for her. Merritt brushes it off, pointing out that Amelia probably just has cold feet before the wedding and that everything will be okay. After settling into their room, we see Karen, who has cancer, taking out a stash of three white pills and hiding them deep inside her medicine pouch.

Who does Amelia find on the seashore?

Later, while getting ready, Amelia and Benji share a passionate kiss, but she is reluctant to get intimate, feeling that she doesn’t deserve Benji. At the rehearsal dinner, Benji reminisces about how he met Amelia at the zoo where she was working and how their cute meeting led him to believe that he is in love with her. The night concludes with Tag in his office, feeling worked up about something, Greer deep in thought in her parlor room, and Amelia running towards the seashore when she notices a body from her room. The episode ends with Amelia finding Merritt’s cold, washed-up dead body at the break of day and shouting for help.

The Perfect Couple Episode 2 “She Would Never Do That” Recap:

Episode 2 opens with a grief-stricken Amelia repeating to herself that it is all her fault. We briefly see Amelia and Merritt spending time together, which could be their last moments before her death. However, it seems that Amelia is blaming herself because of a heated argument the two friends must have had, which led to Merritt visibly upset and leaving Amelia alone.

Later, Nikki finds Abby washing a cocktail glass even though the house has enough help around. When asked about Merritt, Abby shares that Merritt was a fun-loving girl who may have been involved with a lot of guys. Greer gets a distressed call from her publisher, Enid, who is reminding her of the upcoming book launch amidst the situation she is currently dealing with.

Amelia returns from the police station, and we see the Winburys consoling her. Nikki, on the other hand, goes through Merritt’s room, where Tag comes to check on them. The officers are not eliminating anyone from their list of suspects as Tag tries to push them to wrap up quickly since it is an accidental drowning case. However, the officers point to possibilities that may include someone strangling Merritt and tampering with evidence.

Meanwhile, Greer summons her family to brief them about issuing a statement to manage the press. Considering her public image and the forthcoming book launch, she wants to ensure that the press focuses more on her than the family’s troubles. Amelia finds it ridiculous that Greer feels Merritt committed suicide. Consequently, Nikki thinks that Dan is being too lenient with the locals and not using a strict approach to find quick results on the “whodunnit.” However, Dan makes her realize that the town is filled with people supporting the forces financially, and it’s not easy to get things done.

Why does Benji ask Amelia to sign an NDA?

On the other hand, Benji requests Amelia to sign an NDA for his mother. Due to past experiences that nearly cost her reputation, Greer requires all the members of the Winbury family to sign an NDA to keep her public image intact. Amelia initially shows reluctance but eventually signs it because of Benji. We briefly see Benji meeting Shooter to check if he is doing okay. After Benji leaves, Shooter calls someone for a quick meeting. Later, Nikki learns that there are two sets of fingerprints on Merritt’s phone, one of which belongs to Shooter. A police officer discovers that Shooter is AWOL and about to board the last ferry. He is then caught by the police and brought to the station for interrogation.

In the meantime, we also discover that Thomas has been sleeping with Isabel, who considers this a casual affair. Thomas is frustrated that no one is taking him seriously and feels bitter towards everyone, including his family and wife, who think of him as incompetent. Abby decides to pack her bags and leave for a retreat for some ‘me-time,’ even though none of the Winburys are allowed to leave. She asks Thomas to get the money for the apartment so she can live a peaceful life with her baby girl after delivery. Thomas is not keen on hearing they are having a baby girl, which leads Abby to leave the room in disgust.

What does Amelia share with the police officers about Merritt?

A still from The Perfect Couple starring Meghann Fahy as Merritt.

We then see Tag approaching Greer, who is busy writing her next book. Tag wants to spend more time with Greer but is shut down when she asks him to clean up the mess, expressing her frustration about always having to deal with things he never addresses. Later in the night, Tag calls Amelia to his office, suggesting that the ongoing situation should not create awkwardness between them. It seems Tag knows something that Amelia already knows, possibly related to Merritt and her relationship with him.

The ending of Episode 2 shows Amelia discreetly driving to the police station to share that Merritt had been sleeping with Tag. A flashback reveals that Merritt told Amelia she was pregnant with Tag’s child and that she is in love with him. The final moments show Greer reflecting on the day when she notices the bracelet Merritt was wearing on her arrival, which Tag bought under Greer’s name.

The Perfect Couple Episode 3 “The Perfect Family” Recap:

Episode 3 dives into how Merritt and Tag happened to be. They connected with one another after sharing a joint when Tag finds her overwhelmed by a phone call. Meanwhile, Amelia reveals to the officers that Merritt was pregnant with Tag’s child. Even though Merritt seems flamboyant, she is a simple person wishing to settle down with a man who loves her. Back at home, Tag frantically searches for something in his office.

Later, unable to sleep, Amelia goes to Tag’s office to look around but gets caught by Greer, who warns her not to wander into the room again. The following day, Greer continues planning the day as she doesn’t want to cancel the events or wish to explain it to guests flying in from different places. She also reminds Tag about the interview he has to accompany her to later in the day as it focuses on her book launch and her public persona – something she doesn’t want to be tarnished at any cost.

Briefly, we see Will sneaking into Chloe’s room through her window to find out why she has been avoiding him and whether she has shared anything with anyone. However, their conversation is interrupted by Dan, who immediately dismisses Will for trespassing on his property. A flashback shows Will and Chloe meeting during the rehearsal dinner, where Chloe was serving as a waitress. The duo hangs out later at Will’s secret place by the beach, but Will gets distracted by Merritt and Tag’s panic-stricken conversation. Shortly after, Chloe wakes up to find Will yelping in pain with blood all over his hand, leading her to use her uniform to help him stop the bleeding.

Why does Abby warn Amelia about crossing paths with Greer?

Next, we see Abby sharing her two cents with Amelia about how to blend in with the Winbury family. She warns her sister-in-law-to-be to keep away from Greer, as she is dangerous to deal with. Abby also hints that Greer makes everyone sign an NDA, and she had signed one before joining the family. The reason behind the NDA is to avoid repeating the same mistake Greer made with Will’s nanny, Mae, who suddenly disappeared, suggesting that Benji and Mae were close. This prompts Amelia to ask Benji about Mae and the NDA. Benji assures Amelia that she has nothing to worry about regarding the NDA, as it is a usual practice for his mother to safeguard her image.

While interviewing for People magazine, the interviewer asks many questions about how Greer continues to write blissful, ever-after love stories and how her personal life contributes to them. Greer is quick with her responses and presents a delighted marriage with Tag, who seems least bothered by the whole image-building interview. He also gets carried away with his lies, fed to him by Greer.

A sudden weather shift and rainfall interrupt Greer’s precious interview, leading the interviewer to proceed with a family picture. While Greer gets ready for the picture, Tag points out why Greer is so rigid about showcasing to the world how her family is a perfectly functional, happy family when, in reality, everyone is falling apart. He essentially resents Greer and wants to escape the lies and deceit that his wife has portrayed to the world. However, Greer dismisses Tag’s sudden introspection and heads downstairs.

Why does Greer get the NDA signed by everyone?

On her way, she sees Amelia not ready for the picture and, with a cold demeanor, bluntly tells her that as a daughter-in-law and soon-to-be wife of her son, she expects Amelia to try harder to become part of the family, which includes getting dressed up and presenting herself like everyone else.

The Perfect Couple stars Nicole Kidman, Meghann Fahy, and Dakota Fanning.

At the police station, Nikki and Dan listen to Merritt’s phone calls, where they discover that Benji called her to prevent her from sharing anything with Amelia. Meanwhile, Amelia goes through Benji’s desk and finds photographs of Merritt, prompting her to suspect that Benji might have something to do with her friend’s death. After getting ready, Amelia finally joins the Winburys for the family photoshoot.

On the other hand, Nikki has to let Shooter go, as he does not reveal a thing, and his lawyer intervenes. Later, at a family dinner with everyone present – including Amelia’s parents, things get awkward when Amelia questions what happened to Mae and why Greer has a tendency to have NDAs signed by anyone joining the family.

This question leads to several revelations, including Tag’s affair with Will’s nanny, Mae, which led Greer to pay Mae off and fire her instantly without Will ever finding out. Will had always liked his nanny and believed that his silly note declaring his fondness for her was the reason Mae left so abruptly. The revelation makes him furious at his parents as he storms out of the room. Greer gets angry at Tag for not paying attention to his children, including not giving two shits about her youngest, sensitive son, who is hurt right now because of his actions.

The Perfect Couple Episode 3 “The Perfect Family” Ending Explained:

What does Amelia find at Will’s secret place?

Dan and Nikki find out that lab reports confirm Merritt was pregnant and that Will’s fingerprints were on the knife found near Merritt’s body. Later that night, Dan discovers his daughter is missing from her room, and the Winburys realize Will is also missing. It turns out Chloe had gone to meet Will, who has decided to run away from his deceitful family.

He is visibly upset that his parents never cared to tell him the truth, leaving him with the guilt of thinking he was responsible for Mae’s departure. Chloe decides to accompany Will in his plan to take the boat and leave. The episode ends with Amelia finding Merritt’s bracelet at Will’s secret place while searching for him. She takes the bracelet and shows up at the police station again, presenting it to Nikki.

The Perfect Couple Episode 4 “Someone Could Get Hurt” Recap:

Episode 4 opens with Nikki pushing Amelia to reveal everything she knows. However, it seems that Amelia also has a vulnerable past that she is not too proud of. In a flashback, we see Amelia and Shooter meeting for the first time while boarding a chartered plane to Greer’s family house in Nantucket. While Shooter feels he has met Amelia somewhere before, Amelia denies his assumptions.

Amelia and Shooter are the first to arrive at the house, and the maintenance crew is supposed to come a week later. The two get to know each other while walking by the beach. We learn that Shooter and Benji have been roommates since school and that Shooter has been a regular visitor at the Winbury vacation house since Benji invited him after Shooter’s mother passed away. We can see the two have a connection, but they don’t act on it due to their shared relationship with Benji.

Why did Will have Merritt’s bracelet?

After the coastal guards find Will and Chloe, Dan interrogates Will about his hand injury and why he had Merritt’s bracelet. Will quickly shares that he found the bracelet on the beach when he saw an upset Merritt pass by while hanging out with Chloe. Since the bracelet had diamonds, he chose to keep it with him, planning to return it to Merritt later. He also reveals that he knew about his father’s affair and even confronted Merritt, offering to help her get rid of the baby because he knew his father would never leave his mother for another woman.

Why does Benji have Merritt’s photographs?

Greer becomes worked up upon seeing her son return safely. While everyone is gathered, Abby takes a call on the landline from a man asking to speak to Greer. With her typical Karen-like arrogance, Abby announces in front of everyone that Greer has received a call from someone named Broderick. Greer denies knowing any man by that name and dismisses everyone. Meanwhile, Amelia confronts Benji about Merritt’s photograph, but he assures her that he has nothing to do with her death and explains that Merritt gave him the pictures so he could sketch a portrait for her. He had been hiding them to surprise her.

What was the reason behind Greer’s disdain towards Tag?

The Perfect Couple ‘Netflix’ Miniseries
A still from The Perfect Couple starring Nicole Kidman and Sam Nivola

The episode flashes back to when Shooter recognizes Amelia from a train ride where she helped pick up the broken pieces of someone’s necklace. However, Amelia insists that they’ve never met.

Later, while working on her book, Tag questions Greer about the man who called. Greer dodges Tag’s questions, already stressed with everything, including the added pressure of her upcoming book launch. Despite his determination to win Greer back into his life, it seems Greer has been punishing him for his infidelity and is well aware of his tendencies. Their gritty argument turns into a passionate moment, but Greer’s disdain for Tag remains.

The Perfect Couple Episode 4 “Someone Could Get Hurt” Ending Explained:

What happens between Amelia and Shooter?

A flashback shows the moment when Greer discovered that Merritt was pregnant when she declined to have any alcohol. Greer subtly and elegantly warned Merritt against getting her hopes up, suggesting that things with Tag might not turn out as she expected.

In the present, Greer meets Dan at his usual bar, where she learns that Merritt’s autopsy report indicates high levels of pentobarbital—a toxic drug that can cause instant death if taken in high doses.

We then see Amelia going to Shooter’s room, where things get steamy as the two realize they have chemistry. This leads Amelia to admit that she does, in fact, remember him from their train ride. However, Benji catches the two of them about to get intimate. The episode ends with Tag being taken to the police station after becoming the prime suspect in connection with Merritt’s death.

The Perfect Couple Episode 5 “Never Gonna Give You Up” Recap:

Episode 5 begins with a face-off between Greer and Amelia. It seems Greer is skeptical about Amelia marrying Benji purely for a comfortable, wealthy life. Since Benji has always put his mother first, Greer doesn’t like being second in line now that Amelia is in the picture. She wants to understand if Amelia truly loves Benji because she doesn’t want him to get hurt.

Meanwhile, Amelia is more curious about Tag, who has been at the police station since last night. Greer feels relieved that Tag is at the station rather than accompanying her to her book launch. The story then flashes back to show Tag learning that Merritt is pregnant, which makes him very happy. Back in the present, Tag is being thoroughly interrogated by Dan and Nikki, who are determined to get to the bottom of the truth.

When Abby learns that Greer wants Amelia to be present at her book launch in spite of the relationship between her and Benji is now up for a toss, she helps the bride-to-be get ready and presentable for the party. It’s clear Abby isn’t pleased that Greer is favoring Amelia over her, but Abby is a subtle game player. She knows her cards well. At the book launch, when the two sisters-in-law notice Shooter greeting Greer, Abby points out that Shooter is desirable due to his overflowing wealth, making Amelia feel strange since Shooter never mentioned being rich.

Meanwhile, Benji is drunk and even punches Shooter in the face when he tries to apologize and confront him about catching his friend and fiancée kissing. This leads Amelia to take Benji away, as her mother-in-law had warned her that nothing should distract the press and guests from the book launch. Benji is upset and spoiled, and as Amelia tries to sober him up, she notices that Benji really does love her. She kisses him, which leads to the two having sex in the kitchen pantry at the back of the party. For the first time, she feels a sensation of desire towards Benji – something that she thought their relationship lagged up until now.

How does Tag’s smartwatch provide a solid alibi against him?

The Perfect Couple ‘Netflix’ Miniseries
A still from The Perfect Couple starring Nicole Kidman as Greer.

Back at the police station, Tag is under pressure for being the last person to be with Merritt, according to a list that names the people who were the last to leave the rehearsal dinner party. The flashback at this point shows that after having a few drinks, Tag decided to go paddling in his boat since it was a beautiful moonlit night. Before leaving, he gives his blazer to Merritt, who might have been feeling cold. Isabel, who was also sitting with them, notices this but decides to go out to the beach to finish her drink, leaving Merritt by herself at the table.

Later, Merritt joined Tag, who was waiting for her to join him for paddling. However, Merritt insists on having a discussion about their future together instead of paddling. She finds out that Tag is not too keen on leaving Greer, even though he promised Merritt that he will slowly work things out. She feels betrayed and disappointed since Tag is the first man she ever allowed herself to fall in love with, shattering her perfect illusion completely.

Unable to prove his innocence, Tag hands over his smartwatch to the officers, asking them to check the pulse rate tracker from the night of Merritt’s death as he was sleeping in his room at the time she was presumed to have died. This gives Tag some leeway, as his watch now serves as an alibi, and the officers allow him to leave the station after spending the entire night there.

What happens at Greer’s book launch?

At the book launch, Isabel tells Amelia that the two of them are very alike because they speak the truth, and the Winburys don’t like people who are authentic. She encourages Amelia to be herself, as this will give her the strength to fight the opposition and threats the Winburys may bring. Isabel also shares that she really liked Merritt, and the flashback shows their last moments together, where they talked about how cheating men never leave their wives, so the other woman has to try to make the wife leave the man. However, while toasting their glasses, Isabel’s glass breaks, prompting her to leave in order to get another drink.

Meanwhile, in the present, Tag arrives at the book launch and finds Greer reading a verse from her new book, making everyone swoon over the perfect love story. Greer looks up to see a man in the crowd approaching her. She calls for security to avoid any potential conflict, but just before the man is escorted out, he tells her not to ignore him. At this moment, Tag joins Greer with his snarky, mean comments.

Initially, the guests at the party are thrilled to see Dash (Tag), the main ‘lover’ character from Greer’s books. But when Tag throws a fit, everyone is shocked to realize that Greer’s marriage is not perfect after all. Her book launch turns into absolute chaos as Tag’s melodrama goes viral on the internet, and the famous novelist is trolled for selling lies for all these years.

The Perfect Couple Episode 5 “Never Gonna Give You Up” Ending Explained:

How does Greer become a suspect in Merritt’s murder?

Later, we see Dan and Nikki discovering that Tag is innocent, as his pulse rate tracker confirms he was sleeping on the night of Merritt’s death. However, upon comparing charts from before and the ‘D-day,’ it turns out the tracker had been recording two heartbeats, presumably Tag’s and Greer’s. On the night of Merritt’s death, the tracker recorded only one heartbeat, leading the officers to rule out Tag and suspect Greer, who was the only person left to interrogate.

Next, we see Amelia meeting Shooter, where she reveals that she had sex with Benji. Despite both Shooter and Amelia feeling deeply connected, Amelia believes Shooter hasn’t been completely honest with her about his background, which makes him no different from the Winburys.

The ending of Episode 5 shows Dan meeting Greer for drinks again, while Nikki and Carl discover that Broderick has connections with a Russian mafia gang and that there has been a wire transfer of $300,000 to him via Shooter. The final sequence flashes back to Merritt meeting someone at the beach after Isabel left to get a new drink.

The Perfect Couple Episode 6 “That Feels Better” Recap:

The Perfect Couple
A still from The Perfect Couple with Meghann Fahy as Merritt and Eve Hewson as Amelia.

The Perfect Couple has been a thrilling ride, quite honestly. With everyone a suspect and each new revelation, taking things in a different direction put us in Dan and Nikki’s shoes; trying to eliminate suspects from being the culprit. The series finale begins with the aftermath of Tag’s outburst at Greer’s book launch, as she watches the viral videos that have destroyed years of hard work in building an empire based on storytelling.

Her fictional tales have brought wealth and prosperity to her dynasty and are the literal pillar of strength that the family is too busy to notice. Greer calls Enid, her publisher, and asks her to meet ASAP so they can work on plans to mitigate the enormous issue that has brought Greer’s fate to a crossroads.

Next, we see Greer telling Amelia about Merritt’s autopsy report, which reveals high doses of pentobarbital, leaving Amelia in complete disbelief. However, their conversation is cut short when Dan and Nikki arrive at the house to take Greer in for interrogation. Meanwhile, the police raid Greer’s office, seizing everything, including her computer. At the police station, Greer is questioned about her connection to Broderick Graham, who is suspected of killing Merritt Monaco. The police believe she hired him to commit the murder after asking Shooter to wire money to Broderick.

Meanwhile, Amelia spends some time with her parents, wondering how Merritt could have had barbiturates in her system. This prompts Karen to check her medicine pouch. It turns out she’s missing a tablet from the three sets of pills that we saw her hiding earlier. Meanwhile, Amelia calls Shooter to end things for good after realizing she’s been playing with fire all this time.

Back at the house, Enid and her Gen-Z interns visit Tag to discuss the bad press surrounding Greer’s career. Enid tells Tag to issue a statement, and in a chaotic and hilarious scene, the focus shifts to Tag rehearsing his statement about going to rehab in front of his sons and Greer’s PR team.

Who is Broderick Graham?

At the police station, Broderick joins Greer for the interrogation, and hilariously, the officers discover that Broderick is actually Greer’s brother, who lives in London. It turns out Broderick has gambling issues, and Greer wired him the money through Shooter to help him get out of debt with the Russian mafia. This revelation left me in splits because, much like the officers, I didn’t see it coming either. This obviously eliminates Greer, Broderick, and Shooter from suspicion in Merritt’s murder, leaving Dan and Nikki scratching their heads, as the information seems to be taking them further away from finding the real killer.

How did Greer and Tag meet?

So, after being released from the police station, Greer arrives at the house. She pays no attention to Tag’s decision to go to rehab or his statement to the press. Instead, she assembles everyone, and the scene takes a funny turn as she declares that Broderick is her brother and that he was her pimp when she used to be an escort back in London. She also reveals that she met Tag at a bar as a client through Broderick, leaving everyone dumbstruck by this surprising announcement. Greer sighs in relief, having finally disclosed the truth about her life after keeping it hidden for years. I have to say this: episode 6, titled “That Feels Better,” hits the spot at this point in the finale.

Greer has been carrying the weight of running the house and everyone’s lives, which is not only expensive but also tiresome. Revealing her past to everyone in the family has finally allowed to be done with Tag and his incompetence because she is fed up with his negligence and ego. She declares that she won’t be taking care of anyone anymore and that she is through with everything and every one after years of constantly cleaning up after this family of ungrateful pricks.

Who stole Karen’s pill stash?

Next, we find Dan and Nikki in Amelia’s parents’ room, where Karen reveals that, due to her worsening health condition from cancer, she had decided to purchase pentobarbital from a local pharmacy for euthanasia in case things went out of hand. However, she found that one of the pills was missing, which made her feel guilty after learning that Merritt had died from high doses of barbiturate substances.

A still from The Perfect Couple starring Meghann Fahy with Ishaan Khatter.

This revelation about missing medicines points to one person and one person only: Thomas, who is notoriously known for consuming drugs and has often stolen medications from everyone’s rooms. Thomas is taken into custody for interrogation, and the officers find out that he did steal the pills, mistakenly thinking they were Oxy, which he intended to keep for himself rather than give to Merritt.

Did Thomas kill Merritt?

Things take a tricky turn when Dan and Nikki threaten him with jail time if he hides anything from them. It turns out that Thomas knew about his father’s affair and Merritt’s pregnancy. He had taken a gun from his dad’s gun shelf and, while Merritt was alone on the seashore on the night of the rehearsal dinner, he aimed the gun at her to scare her into getting rid of the baby. However, his conscience wouldn’t allow him to pull the trigger, and he was further distracted by Isabel, who calmed him down, explaining that Merritt was a harmless person and that things would get better on their own.

Thomas then points out that Isabel killed Merritt, as she has always been after his stash of pills. He suggests that she most likely took the pills and wanted money because she knew he was eligible for his trust fund when Will turned 18. If she didn’t kill Merritt, who is pregnant with Tag’s child, none of the other children would get their trust fund until the newborn turns 18, and they would have to split the trust fund money four ways instead of three. It all comes down to money by the end of it.

The Perfect Couple, ‘Netflix’ Miniseries Finale Ending, Explained:

Who killed Merritt Monaco and Why?

Upon interrogating Isabel, Dan and Nikki discover that Thomas owed her a lot of money, but she doesn’t care about it because she herself comes from wealth. Additionally, she has an alibi: a recording from her car that shows Isabel hooking up with Thomas at the time of Merritt’s supposed death. This leads the officers to revisit the time when Nikki found Abby cleaning a cocktail glass during her initial questioning on day one.

Back at the house, everyone tries to figure out how the trust fund money connects to Merritt’s death. Greer notices Abby, who has been unusually calm throughout, and pieces together the puzzle. At this point, Dan and Nikki, along with their team, barge into the Winbury property to arrest Abby for murdering Merritt. Abby is stunned by the turn of events, as she did not see this coming.

Why did Abby kill Merritt?

The finale episode of The Perfect Couple finally reveals the true killer. It turns out that Abby had stolen pills from Thomas’s stash and put them in a cocktail glass for Merritt. Already vulnerable and drunk, Merritt drinks the cocktail and then joins Abby in the sea for a quick skinny dip. Abby wanted to remove Merritt from the picture entirely because her pregnancy would interfere with Abby’s plans to access the trust fund money. Thus, Abby used the pills to poison Merritt and then strangled her in the water, ultimately killing her.

What happens to the Winburys’?

The ending of the finale episode, Episode 6 of The Perfect Couple, shows the family finally returning to normalcy after Abby is booked for Merritt Monaco’s murder. We see Tag and Greer back in their life, with Greer working on new ideas for her next book and finally bidding adieu to writing love stories. Benji says goodbye to Amelia, who leaves with her parents. Isabel storms into the house, seeking to get even with Thomas for making her a murder suspect. Will and Chloe are seen hanging out again.

The final sequence fast-forwards to six months later. Greer meets Amelia at the zoo where she works. She hands Amelia a copy of the manuscript of her new book, which is dedicated to Amelia, hinting at the possibility of a new friendship between them. Greer admits she was angry and jealous of Amelia and has addressed her feelings in the new book. Greer requests Amelia to read the book and says she will only submit it to her publisher if Amelia approves the story. If Amelia finds the book satisfactory, she should call Greer, who would love to see her again.
