Keanu Reeves is a renowned actor popularly known for his appearance in the “John Wick” franchise in the titular role. In addition to his great acting skills, the actor is also known for his cool demeanor and friendly behavior with his co-stars. His compassionate nature is a major highlight of his characteristics, and in many instances, he has proved that he is not only a great actor but also a great human. The tale of his bond with his co-stars is always a better way to know him even more closely. Recently when Keanu Reeves accepted the first Lance Reddick Legacy Award at the 51st Saturn Awards, he shared with People that he once wrote Reddick a letter celebrating his character’s impact on the “John Wick” franchise.

Among the vast cast of the “John Wick” franchise, including actors like John Leguizamo, Ian McShane, and Laurence Fishburne, was Lance Reddick, who unfortunately passed away in March 2023.  He portrayed the role of Charon in the “John Wick” film series and served as a vital supporting character in the film. Emphasizing his bond with Lance Reddick, Keanu Reeves said,

“He had such a passion and a fire for creativity and for his craft and art. I had the chance to work with him on four films over eight years, and over that time, we got to know each other better. But also, he had such grace, and he was funny. I mean, humour-wise, I don’t know. I think favorite memory… it’s the scenes that I had with him and the relationship that he and John Wick had.

Actually, I once told him… Well, I wrote him a letter, and I said, ‘People love John Wick because Charon loves John Wick.’ Because that character loved John Wick, that made John Wick okay. And so when I got to act with him, we had such an affection. The characters had such an affection, and offscreen, we had such affection and just really enjoyed working on the John Wick films, our characters, getting to work with Chad [Stahelski], and on that series. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime project. I think he knew that, I knew it, and we just loved working together on it.”

Reddick was undeniably an incredible actor who proved his versatility and dedication throughout his career. Apart from playing the popular character in the “John Wick” film series, Reddick has portrayed various numerous iconic roles that include Cedric Daniels in HBO’s “The Wire,” Chief Irvin Irving in “Bosch,” and Phillip Broyles in “Fringe.” Reddick’s character of Charon in John Wick’s franchise had its significance.  Charon served as the concierge at the Continental Hotel, which caters exclusively to assassins and criminals, providing them with services, refuge, and a neutral ground where no business may be conducted.

Throughout the film series, he demonstrates a cool demeanor, and he is well-connected with the criminal underworld.  Though he doesn’t indulge in any sort of violence, he often served as a good companion to John Wick as he aided him in his endeavors.  In the latest sequel, the character of Charon dies, and Reddick’s role in the film ends with the end of Charon’s character. While Wick loses a good companion, the pain of Reeves after losing a good co-star like Reddick is palpable as well. Reddick’s role was not as major as Reeves’ role in the movie, but his contribution to the film was undoubtedly commendable.
