Quentin Tarantino will not be making ‘The Movie Critic’ as his final film: Quentin Tarantino is one of the greatest filmmakers of the 20th century. Throughout his career, the filmmaker has made incredible films, but there aren’t many movies directed by him despite his being an impeccable visionary auteur. The reason is straight, he believes in the concept of quality over quantity. As previously announced by the filmmaker, he will retire from filmmaking after making one final project, his 10th.

In 2012, he told Playboy, “I want to stop at a certain point. Directors don’t get better as they get older. Usually, the worst films in their filmography are those last four at the end. I am all about my filmography, and one bad film f—s up three good ones. I don’t want that bad, out-of-touch comedy in my filmography, the movie that makes people think, ‘Oh man, he still thinks it’s 20 years ago.’ When directors get out-of-date, it’s not pretty.”

Though Tarantino has made a firm decision to retire from his filmmaking career, it won’t be possible if he keeps rejecting films. Recently, it was reported that Tarantino has decided to scrap “The Movie Critic” as his final film.

Why did Quentin Tarantino back off from his final film ‘The Movie Critic’?

The reason why Quentin Tarantino called off his upcoming project titled The Movie Critic is unknown. The news about the end of this project came as Tarantino had a change of heart again and moved away from the film entirely. Even what will be the substitute for this project is also uncertain.

The premise of the unfinished project was set in 1977 California. It initially drew inspiration from a cynical movie critic that the filmmaker grew up reading. According to Deadline, Brad Pitt was going to star, and  THR says Pitt would have reprised his Cliff Booth stuntman role from Once Upon A Time In Hollywood.  Apparently, many of the previous members of Tarantino’s repertory company were eyeing roles for the film, but now it doesn’t matter anymore because the film has been canceled.

As aforementioned, the reasons why Tarantino canceled his supposed tenth and final film are unknown. However, Tarantino recently revised the script, which delayed the commencement of the project. It can be assumed that this delay affected the availability of certain actors he wanted to cast. Moreover, if Tarantino is determined for his next film to be his last, The Movie Critic might not have been the grand farewell project he had envisioned, but that’s speculation.

As of Tarantino’s retirement, he is expected to continue working in the creative field even after he makes one last feature. He has suggested directing limited series or plays could be in his future. He is also now a writer and published a novelization of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood in 2021. So it can be said that the 61-year-old Tarantino won’t be stepping away from the camera anytime soon.
