After giving a phenomenal performance in Denis Villeneuve’s epic sci-fi sequel film Dune: Part Two, actor Timothée Chalamet has bagged another big project. It is going to be a musical biopic directed by James Mangold. Both Timothée Chalamet and Mangold have collaborated to deliver the musical legend Bob Dylan’s biopic, A Complete Unknown. While ever since the film was announced, the hype has been maintained as the creators keep dropping images of the film. And now brand new footage of Chalamet singing on the set of the upcoming music-fueled film has emerged online.
Recently, Chalamet was spotted in New Jersey filming a scene for the film alongside actress Monica Barbaro. She is portraying the role of iconic folk singer Joan Baez, one of Dylan’s early romantic partners and collaborators. In the video, Barbaro and Chalamet can be heard strumming their guitars and singing into a microphone before he plays the harmonica, a duet on the classic Dylan song, “Girl from the North Country.” This footage comes just one month after the actor was initially spotted dressing as the well-known singer for the film.
What can be expected from Timothée Chalamet’s upcoming Bob Dylan biopic?
Timothée Chalamet is currently busy shooting his upcoming musical biopic based on the life of legendary musical artist Bob Dylan. The film is titled A Complete Unknown (after lyrics in Dylan’s song Like A Rolling Stone). Apart from Chalamet and Barbaro, the film will also feature Benedict Cumberbatch, Elle Fanning, Nick Offerman, and Edward Norton as folk icon Pete Seger.
Rather than concentrating on Dylan’s life journey, the film primarily focuses on the controversy surrounding the switch to electrically amplified instrumentation by the singer. Mangold previously shared that the film was more Robert Altman-esque and not a traditional biopic.
Interestingly, the filmmaker also revealed that Chalamet would sing in the film. This isn’t the first time Chalamet has shown his singing chops in a film. Previously, he sang in the musical film Wonka.
Last year, during a conversation with Collider, Mangold said:
“It’s such an amazing time in American culture, and the story of Bob’s — a young, 19-year-old Bob Dylan coming to New York with two dollars in his pocket and becoming a worldwide sensation within three years. First being embraced into a family of folk music in New York and of course kind of outrunning him at a certain point as his star rises so beyond belief. It’s such an interesting true story and about such an interesting moment in the American scene.”
While A Complete Unknown is in its developing stage, Mangold is already ready with his other plans, which he will work on once he finishes this ongoing project. The filmmaker’s other forthcoming projects include a Star Wars prequel tentatively called Dawn Of The Jedi and a horror/supernatural superhero movie for James Gunn’s DC Studios titled Swamp Thing.
A Complete Unknown release date is yet to be announced. But it is currently not expected to arrive until TBD 2025.
