Thom Yorke, popularly known as one of the greatest and most influential singers of his generation, has recently released his new music project—a 12-track score for the film Confidenza, also known as Trust. The film marks the reunion of Yorke with filmmaker Daniele Luchetti, who previously worked together on a documentary about Carla Fracci, Codice Carla. The film will also mark Yorke’s collaboration with producer Sam Petts-Davies, the London Contemporary Orchestra, and a jazz ensemble featuring Tom Skinner and Robert Stillman. As reported by Stereogum, Yorke’s work in the film is not like any other film’s score, as in this film, he provides his vocals along with instrumental compositions. The musician agreed to compose for Confidenza after the script “evoked some musical threads.”
Luchetti described their process as finding “a way in sideways, building the music more through the subtext than through the narrative itself.” Yorke and Luchetti “were constantly searching for something that sounded a bit off.” Luchetti said they wanted to create tension while making the characters’ fears appear “ridiculous.”
The score features the London Contemporary Orchestra and a jazz ensemble, including drummer Tom Skinner and saxophonist Robert Stillman, both of whom have performed with Yorke’s band, the Smile. It was produced by Sam Petts-Davies, who also produced Yorke’s 2018 soundtrack, Suspiria, and the 2024 Smile album Wall of Eyes.
Confidenza premiered at the International Film Festival Rotterdam earlier this year and will be released in Italy this week. The film features Elio Germano as Pietro Vella, a high school teacher in his forties who works in a rundown Roman high school. He has high hopes for his students and believes he can help them build a better future. One of his students, Teresa, is intelligent and rebellious, and she is fascinated by his teaching style. Then, a few years later, they meet up again and get romantically entangled. Teresa insists they must share their deepest secrets to bond for life. But as soon as Pietro really opens up, the relationship ends.

Thomas Edward Yorke, who goes by his stage name Thom Yorke, is an English musician. He is the main vocalist and songwriter of the rock band Radiohead. Although he is a multi-instrumentalist, he mainly plays guitar and keyboards and is noted for his falsetto.
