The still-gestating Sicario 3, starring Josh Brolin, is close to getting completely ready, claims the actor. During a recent interview, the actor discussed the third installment of Sicario, which has been in the making for the last few months. Brolin shared that the upcoming film will bring back the original cast of Emily Blunt, Benicio del Toro, and himself. He also claimed that the project is getting ‘closer’ to becoming a reality. But by the sounds of it, it’s not quite ready to go yet.

What’s the status of ‘Sicario 3’ starring Josh Brolin, as of now?

In 2015, filmmaker Denis Villeneuve delivered an acclaimed action thriller film titled Sicario. Penned by Taylor Sheridan, the film follows a principled FBI special agent who is enlisted by a government task force to bring down the leader of a powerful and brutal Mexican drug cartel. The film was both a commercial and a critical hit, which led to its sequel, Sicario: Day of the Soldado. Released in 2018, this sequel is helmed by Stefano Sollima. It received generally favorable reviews from critics. And now a third film, titled Sicario: Capos, is in development.

As Brolin mentioned, this upcoming installment will include the same star cast as the original film, including Emily Blunt, Benicio del Toro, and Brolin. Though the details regarding the project are still under wraps, Brolin did spill some tea related to it.

The actor said, “We are—we’re closer. Yes. Molly Smith, who is a really good friend, who is one of the producers of that on Black Label—I said something. I said, ‘It’s never gonna happen!’ and it kind of went everywhere. And she was very reactive, which I appreciated. I appreciate reaction. They’re very much focused on wanting it to happen, but we won’t let it happen until there’s a story interesting enough to want to spend that kind of money on it.”

While the plot details are also scarce as of now, Brolin revealed that “Mission Impossible” filmmaker and screenwriter Christopher McQuarrie, who was once helping out on the project, is no longer involved. And original screenwriter Taylor Sheridan is a question mark. Brolin said, “Chris [McQuarrie] was involved for a while, but he’s not now. And I don’t know about [Taylor] Sheridan. I know him really well, but I don’t know if he’s onboard or not.”

Although that’s all that could be excavated about the film so far, there is additional information that suggests that Denis Villeneuve, who directed the original film, won’t be involved in the upcoming Sicario 3.
