After riding high on the success of her latest film, “Barbie,” actress Margot Robbie has nabbed another big project. The acclaimed actress is set to star in an upcoming comic book adaptation, Avengelyne, based on Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld’s eponymous creation.
According to the Deadline, Robbie is working out the finer details to feature as the titular angel in Avengelyne. In addition to portraying the titular role, the actress will also be producing the film under her production banner LuckyChap Entertainment imprint, with a potential Warner Bros. reunion on the cards as the studio has been negotiating a near seven-figure rights deal for the movie.
What can be expected from Margot Robbie’s upcoming project based on the ‘Avengelyne’ comic?
Margot Robbie was last seen in the Greta Gerwig-directed “Barbie,” which became the highest-grossing movie in Warner Bros. history, making over $1.44 billion at the global box office and becoming the biggest-earning film for 2023. Now, with her new project, “Avengelyne,” Robbie will be taking directions from well-acclaimed auteur Olivia Wilde, whose notable filmmaking credits include award-winning Booksmart and Don’t Worry Darling.
If you loved the character of Bella Baxter from “Poor Things,” which earned Emma Stone the Best Actress Oscar, then the excitement for “Avengelyne” can be doubled as “Poor Things” writer Tony McNamara will pen the screenplay.
With Warner Bros. closing the rights deal for “Avengelyne,” it would be the latest collaboration with the studio for Robbie, whose production company signed a first-look agreement with them in February.
While most of the things for the film are set, the release date is yet to be confirmed for “Avengelyne.”
Who is Avengelyne?
Avengelyne is a comic book character created by Rob Liefeld and Cathy Christian. Avengelyne is an angel who fights the forces of evil and often finds herself face-to-face with demons and monsters. As described in an article in Deadline:
Avengelyne was the most feared warrior in Heaven’s Warhost, having single-handedly broken into Pandemonium, the outer fortress of Hell, to confront the Devil himself. She is a fallen angel, banished from Heaven by God after being tricked into questioning His love for humans. Avengelyne was stripped of all her angelic abilities, other than her great strength and her blood, which, once extracted from her body, could be used as a weapon or a miracle once empowered by quoting verses from the Bible. Avengelyne uses her powers to fight demons on earth and is being groomed to be humankind’s last hope in a coming Armageddon.
This isn’t the first time when Robbie would be portraying a comic book character, as she has previously starred in comic book movies, portraying Harley Quinn in the DC Extended Universe films, Suicide Squad and Birds of Prey. Now, with “Avengelyne,” it would be exciting for fans to see Margot Robbie in another live-action comic book character role.
