Jim Cummings is an American filmmaker, actor, and composer popularly known for his directorial work on films like “The Beta Test,” “Thunder Road,” and “The Wolf of Snow Hollow.” Now Jim Cummings’ latest project titled, Is Now a Good Time?, is set to premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival.
Cummings recently appeared in the 2023 crime thriller “The Last Stop in Yuma County.” During our interview for “The Last Stop in Yuma County,” Cummings mentioned that he enjoys making short films. The actor also revealed that his upcoming movie, Is Now a Good Time? had to be a short film, and due to copyright issues, it couldn’t be a feature-length film. Explaining the plot of the upcoming film, Cummings said,
“The new short that’s going to Tribeca next month is about me being a Marvel and Disney PR rep going to the bedside of a dying child for the Make a Wish Foundation. I show him Captain America 4, but the movie is very long, and he dies. And I’m traumatized by it. It’s comedy. It’s very, very funny. But you can never do that as a feature, because you’d get sued to smithereens, and so it’s a short, and as a parody, you can do that kind of stuff.”
Cummings is well aware of the risk that comes along with his new short film, Is Now a Good Time? Gauging the risk involved in this project, the actor claims that he is ready for any controversy it might stir up. He said,
“Because of the stuff that we say about Taiwan and China in the short film, I don’t think I’ll be able to work for [Disney or] any of their subsidiaries, either. So, in making the short film, we had to tell members of the cast and crew that they should be okay with not having a job at Hulu, like, there are these giants. Disney’s one of the big six and it has its tentacles in everything. It’s possible you might lose work because of this thing. And I can take that risk, but it’s something where, you know, to ask a gaffer to put their name on this thing that means that they won’t be able to get into Beijing on their honeymoon is a very sad and scary, scary thing.”
Sharing not-so-positive yet realistic insight about his prospects as a Marvel director or star, Cummings added, “So when it comes to Disney, probably not. But I’d love to hang with James Gunn. I’d love to see what he’s up to.“
The Last Stop in Yuma County was released in select theaters and on digital formats by Well Go USA Entertainment on May 10, 2024.
