Presumed Innocent Trailer Release: There are many movies that we come across, and there are also those that we miss out on. It’s hard to keep track, even if your favorite actor is in that movie. But sometimes fans do get lucky enough to revisit such iconic pieces. This time, it is Harrison Ford’s film that was released in 1990. Many must have been unaware of this one, as it was a legal thriller film titled “Presumed Innocent” that featured Ford in the lead role. To fans’ delight, the film is taking a different route with an upcoming Apple TV+ series.
Based on the novel of the same name, the series recently released its trailer, providing a glimpse into what can be expected from the series. The series tells the story of a prosecutor who is suspected of murdering his colleague. As the case unfolds, you learn all the dirt, including that the prosecutor and the victim were romantically linked, with his DNA all over her apartment. Basically, things don’t look good for the suspect, but he continues to tell people that he didn’t kill her. And, of course, as the title of the series suggests, people are presumed innocent until proven otherwise.
Produced by David E. Kelley and J.J. Abrams, the series boasts a talented star cast, including Jake Gyllenhaal, Ruth Negga, Bill Camp, O-T Fagbenle, Chase Infiniti, Nana Mensah, Renate Reinsve, Peter Sarsgaard, Kingston Rumi Southwick, and Elizabeth Marvel.
The synopsis of the series reads:
“Based on The New York Times bestselling novel of the same name by Scott Turow, the gripping series takes viewers on a journey through the horrific murder that upends the Chicago Prosecuting Attorneys’ office when chief deputy prosecutor Rusty Sabich (played by Gyllenhaal) is suspected of the crime. The series explores obsession, sex, politics, and the power and limits of love, as the accused fights to hold his family and marriage together.”
“Presumed Innocent” is set to release on Apple TV+ on June 12.
How was the original film received by the critics?
Sometimes, iconic pieces get lost with time, and perhaps “Presumed Innocent” is one such film by Harrison Ford that isn’t talked much about. It is a 1990 American legal thriller film based on Scott Turow’s 1987 novel of the same name. Directed by Alan J. Pakula and written by Pakula and Frank Pierson, the film featured an ensemble cast including Ford, Brian Dennehy, Raúl Juliá, Bonnie Bedelia, Paul Winfield, and Greta Scacchi.
Turow’s novel had such an impact on filmmakers that several studios and producers fought to secure the film rights one year before the novel was published. Ultimately, the rights to the novel were procured by producers Sydney Pollack and Mark Rosenberg in December 1986, and they hired Pierson to write the script. Later, when the project was moved to Warner Bros., Pakula was hired to rewrite the script with Pierson before signing on as the film’s director in January 1989.
Upon its release, the film met with positive reception both critically and commercially. The film has an approval rating of 86% on Rotten Tomatoes, with critics praising its directing, acting, and writing. It grossed $221 million worldwide and became the eighth-highest-grossing film of 1990.
Before coming out as an Apple+ series, the film was followed by a television miniseries, “The Burden of Proof,” in 1992, and a television film sequel, “Innocent,” in 2011.
