Whilst there may be five days left of the annual Sydney Film Festival, they have just unveiled their Back By Popular Demand extended schedule, which will run from June 17th to June 20th, following the closing gala on June 16th, where Coralie Fargeat’s acclaimed “The Substance” will be screened.
In total, 19 films will be screened again, including A24’s acclaimed “I Saw the TV Glow,” starring Justice Smith and Brigette Lundy-Paine. The film premiered in America to rave reviews, securing an 84 on both Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic. It is the second directorial effort from Jane Schoenbrun, who burst onto the filmmaking scene with the Indie-horror breakout “We’re All Going to the World’s Fair.”
Cannes winners are also among the festival’s extended lineup, with Payal Kapadia’s acclaimed “All We Imagine as Light,” the first Indian film to premiere in competition at Cannes in thirty years, winning the Grand Prix award, and Miguel Gomes’ “Grand Tour,” for which he won best director.
“Sasquatch Sunset” from the Zellner brothers, starring Jesse Eisenberg and Riley Keough, A24’s “Problemista” starring Tilda Swinton, and “The Outrun,” for which Saoirse Ronan’s performance as a recovering alcoholic has already been tipped for awards, are also listed on the schedule.
Finally, Sundance premieres such as the Chinese thriller “Brief History of a Family,” the 1989 Grand Jury-Prize winner “True Love,” and other festival favorites such as “Motel Destino” from Karim AÏnouz, the Taika Waititi-produced “We Were Dangerous,” and documentaries such as Bhutan’s “Agent of Happiness” and “Chairman Clift—Life Burns High” round out the eclectic programme.
