How cool does it sound when someone gets advice from their future self? Well, this isn’t possible in real life. But in reel life, every fantasy comes true. Presenting such a story, Amazon recently dropped the first trailer for “My Old Ass,” a comedy film written and directed by Megan Park.
The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival on January 20, 2024. It is scheduled to be given a limited theatrical release in the United States on September 13, 2024, by Amazon MGM Studios under the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer label.
What is ‘My Old Ass’ all about?
Predicted to be a fan favorite movie of the year, “My Old Ass” offers a refreshing and heartfelt twist on the classic coming-of-age story, which revolves around the character of Elliott Labrant, who has been advised by her future self not to fall in love and is sure she can follow the advice she has been given. That is until she meets the boy her older self warned her about. Actress Maisy Stella is seen playing the role of 18-year-old Elliot, whereas Aubrey Plaza portrays the role of future/older Elliott.
The trailer released by Amazon shows that Elliott heads to a remote island with her best friends to celebrate her 18th birthday, and trips on mushrooms. Just when Elliott thinks the experience isn’t affecting her, she finds herself conversing with a woman who claims to be her future self—literally. When asked for advice, her future self gives one key piece of guidance: avoid anyone named Chad, which seems simple enough. However, when Elliott meets the very Chad (Percy Hynes White) she was warned about, things get complicated. Elliott begins to consider the lessons her future self might teach her and vice versa.
The movie has an impressive score of 92% on Rotten Tomatoes, with an average rating of 7.3/10. In March 2022, it was announced that Megan Park would write and direct her sophomore feature film, a coming-of-age comedy titled “My Old Ass,” with LuckyChap Entertainment, Scythia Films, and Indian Paintbrush producing.
Maddie Ziegler, Kerrice Brooks, Maria Dizzia, Seth Isaac Johnson, and Carter Trozzolo round off the rest of the film’s cast.
Following the theatrical releases, it plans to make the film available on Prime Video for streaming worldwide. Originally scheduled for August 2, 2024, “My Old Ass” faced a delay but later confirmed its release date to be September 13, 2024.
