Sony Pictures Classics’ spring comedy Wicked Little Letters is set to make its streaming debut on Netflix later this month. Thea Sharrock directed the film, which premiered at the 2023 Toronto Film Festival before hitting US theaters on March 29th, 2024. The script was written by Jonny Sweet.
Starring Olivia Colman, Jessie Buckley, Anjana Vasan, Joanna Scanlan, Gemma Jones, Malachi Kirby, Lolly Adefope, Eileen Atkins, and Timothy Spall, the movie is based on a true scandal and follows the investigation into the anonymous author of numerous crudely insulting letters sent to the residents of the seaside town Littlehampton, England.

In a 1920s English seaside town, a farcical yet sinister scandal unfolds in the riotous mystery comedy Wicked Little Letters. Inspired by a true story stranger than fiction, the film centers on two neighbors: the prim and proper Edith Swan (Olivia Colman) and the boisterous Irish migrant Rose Gooding (Jessie Buckley). When Edith and other residents receive scandalous letters filled with outrageously hilarious profanities, the blame falls on foul-mouthed Rose. The anonymous missives spark a national uproar, leading to a sensational trial. However, as the town’s women, spearheaded by Police Officer Gladys Moss (Anjana Vasan), delve deeper into the investigation, they begin to suspect that the true culprit might be someone entirely unexpected.
