Tim Robinson and Paul Rudd’s offbeat buddy comedy Friendship is set to arrive on digital streaming platforms later this month. The A24 release, which had its world premiere at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival, opened in U.S. theaters on May 9th, 2025. Now, according to industry sources, the film is expected to hit VOD and digital platforms soon. Please note that A24 has not officially confirmed the date, and as always, release plans remain subject to change.
What is Friendship About?
Friendship marks the directorial debut of Andrew DeYoung, who also penned the screenplay. The film follows Craig (played by Tim Robinson), a suburban dad struggling with loneliness and a desire for deeper connection. When a new neighbor (Paul Rudd) moves in, Craig sees an opportunity to finally form an adult male friendship. But his efforts to bond quickly spiral into chaos, threatening not only his new relationship but also both their lives.
With supporting performances by Kate Mara, Jack Dylan Grazer, Josh Segarra, and Billy Bryk, Friendship blends cringe comedy with heartfelt introspection, offering a hilarious yet surprisingly emotional look at modern male bonding.
Where to Watch Friendship Online?
The film is expected to be available for purchase and rental on major digital platforms, including Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, Google Play, and Vudu, starting June 17th, 2025. Pre-orders are now open. Get your early copy here for 24.99$.
When and Where Will Friendship Stream?
While Friendship will debut on VOD first, there is no confirmed streaming platform or SVOD release yet. A24 titles typically take varied streaming paths depending on licensing deals, so viewers may need to wait for news on where it will eventually land. If we are to make a calculated guess based on previous releases, it should be on HBO Max by August.
Box Office and Reception
Friendship opened to modest box office numbers but has built steady momentum through strong word-of-mouth. As of early June, it has grossed approximately $11.2 million domestically.
Critics have largely embraced the film’s quirky tone and emotionally honest storytelling. It currently holds an 84% score on Rotten Tomatoes, with particular praise for the chemistry between Robinson and Rudd, and Andrew DeYoung’s confident directorial debut.
