CANNES, May 6, 2026 — The 79th Festival de Cannes has announced a high-speed addition to its Official Selection: a special 25th-anniversary Midnight Screening of the 2001 classic, The Fast and the Furious.

The event, scheduled for Wednesday, May 13 at 11:45 PM, will transform the Grand Théâtre Lumière into a celebration of the franchise that redefined the modern action blockbuster.

A Star-Studded Return to the Starting Line

The screening marks a quarter-century since the world was introduced to the street-racing culture of Los Angeles. Several key figures responsible for the saga’s $7 billion global success are confirmed to attend, including:

  • Vin Diesel (Dominic Toretto)

  • Jordana Brewster (Mia Toretto)

  • Neal H. Moritz (Producer)

  • Meadow Walker, daughter of the late franchise icon Paul Walker.

The Legacy of the Saga

What began as a gritty thriller focused on local street racing has evolved into Universal Pictures’ most profitable and longest-running franchise.

  • Cultural Impact: Spanning eleven films, the series is celebrated for its diverse international cast, including stars like Tyrese Gibson, Michelle Rodriguez, Ludacris, and Sung Kang.

  • Evolution: The franchise has expanded to include toys, video games, the Hobbs & Shaw spin-off, and an animated series.

  • Future Outlook: The announcement comes as fans look toward the horizon, with the next chapter—Fast Forever—slated for release on March 17, 2028.

The “Family” Connection

Festival organizers emphasized that while the stunts and car chases have grown increasingly “mind-blowing” and “insane” over the decades, the heart of the series remains the deep familial bond between the characters. This connection has fostered a uniquely devoted global audience that continues to grow 25 years later.

“The Grand Théâtre Lumière will resonate with the unmistakable roar of engines… celebrating a franchise that has left an indelible mark on cinema history.”

The midnight event promises to be one of the most energetic screenings of the festival, bridging the gap between prestige cinema and global pop-culture phenomenon.
