It’s time to update your Netflix watch list. The streaming giant recently released the trailer for its new romantic comedy, “A Family Affair.” The film features an ensemble cast that includes Nicole Kidman, Zac Efron, Joey King, Liza Koshy, Kathy Bates, and Shirley MacLaine.  The upcoming romantic comedy marks the reunion of Efron and Kidman, who previously shared the screen in the 2012 film The Paperboy, followed by The Butler, which is set to release next year.

The film follows Zara Ford (King), a young woman who works as the personal assistant to self-absorbed Hollywood star Chris Cole (Efron). She discovers that her boss is having a secret romantic relationship with her widowed mother, Brooke (Kidman).

In the trailer, Brooke admits to her daughter that she has feelings for Cole. She says, “I am starting to feel things that I never thought I would feel again, not since your father died.” Zara responds, “No! You did not just say that!” Well, this family affair seems more like a family feud, growing more chaotic with every turn. How their dynamics will change and what fate awaits their relationships will only be revealed once the movie is released. However, the A-list names attached to the project are enough to ignite anticipation for the film.

Netflix was scheduled to release A Family Affair on November 17, 2023. However, the release was postponed due to the impact of the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike in the United States on the film’s promotion.

The star-studded cast of ‘A Family Affair’ is the backbone of it

While all the elements involved in the film are counted as significant, the cast of the film becomes its backbone, as through them, a story is being told. As for the upcoming Netflix film, three of the industry’s incredible actors have collaborated to bring A Family Affair.

Joey King, who stars as Zara Ford in the upcoming rom-com, has been a frequent face of the Netflix original catalog since starring as Elle Evans in the Kissing Booth film trilogy. Zac Efron has also partnered with Netflix for movies and series. He first appeared in Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil, and Vile, where he portrayed the character of serial killer Ted Bundy. Later, in 2020, he was given his own reality show, Down to Earth.

While both King and Efron have appeared on Netflix more than once, Kidman’s first and only appearance in a Netflix film was in 2020 in The Prom.

Made under the direction of Richard LaGravenese and penned by Carrie Solomon, A Family Affair is set to be released by Netflix on June 28, 2024.
