Based on true events, “A Party to Die For” stands out as one of the most disappointing thriller movies available on the Lifetime network. Directed by Nanea Miyata, the story centers around two newly acquainted friends who quickly label each other as best friends, leading to a social circle that spirals out of control. The only positive aspect I can highlight about the film is Kara Royster’s portrayal of Jessica. Despite how each character is crafted in the film, Kara Royster does her best to maintain the essence of the thriller. Audiences may find it challenging to determine whether the plot or the twist is lacking. Anyway, without further delay, let’s delve into the plot. Spoilers Ahead.
A Party to Die For (2024) Plot Summary and Movie Synopsis:
The film starts with Sadie trying to settle in a big city with the help of her cousin Briana. Sadie has a past with her father since he has been a most-wanted criminal throughout his life. Sadie herself has been convicted once, but now she wants to kickstart her career in a more certain and stable way. Briana has her own store of very sophisticated and costly dresses. Models and designers come and go in her shop, and thus, one day, Sadie meets with Owen Hunt, a renowned businessman in town, while trying out a dress for herself.
Owen buys the dress for her and invites her for dinner. Sadie agrees, and later that night, she ends up at his house. Sadie understands that with confidence and a bit of lying (as she lied to Owen about where she has come from), settling in with the elite class of society is easy. Later, she meets with Jessica, a celebrity model, and with her flaunting confidence, Sadie sells a very costly dress to her. Brianna sees that Sadie is high with her own goals, and she is willing to do anything to achieve them. Jessica invites both Sadie and Briana to a party later that night.
How does Sadie become Jessica’s Best Friend?
At the party, Brianna sees what Sadie is trying to do, and she doesn’t like it. Sadie is doing everything on behalf of Jessica only to impress her and get into her social circle. Truth be told, Sadie has done just fine so far as Jessica trusts her. Brianna tries to warn her as she knows these elite people are always bad news to middle-class people like them. But Sadie is too preoccupied with her ambition that she does not care much about Brianna’s concerns for her. Later, Brianna leaves the party showing enough evidence that she is very much irritated by Sadie’s behavior.
Sadie stays with Jessica, and they start drinking, dancing, and enjoying all the fun things inside the bar. We see a mysterious woman following their movements, but when Sadie informs Jessica about that, she ignores it completely. Sadie even punches a man who tries to bother Jessica, which results in Jessica’s complete trust in her. Together they start to grow their friendship as there comes a time when to be noticed in a party Jessica has invited, Sadie even steals a very costly dress from Brianna’s store. Things start to get tense from this moment onward.
What happens at Owen’s place?
Just after their first party together, Sadie comes to spend the night at Owen’s. The next morning Owen breaks the news that he will not be around for a while as he needs to go on a business trip. However, he gives her the passcodes of the house so that she can leave whenever she feels like it. Later that night, she steals the dress from Brianna to party with Jessica.
Suddenly, Jessica feels like changing the location of the party since the bartender asks them for the last round of orders. Jessica asks Sadie to go to her place with all her friends since she lives nearby (here, too, Sadie lies about where she lives, mentioning Owen’s place as her own). Sadie does not have any choice but to enter Owen’s house, and there she is, completely bamboozled by all the drinking and stuff. She decides to go to sleep when only Jessica and Justin, a random guy they met in the bar, remain inside the house.
Jessica forces Justin to spend some personal moments with Sadie, but Sadie distances herself from Justin. Justin calls the whole situation a bit wild as Jessica is forcing him on Sadie. Jessica does not like to be called impulsive or wild, so she hits Justin from the back of his head. Justin dies in that instant while Jessica helps Sadie to sleep. Sadie witnesses the whole thing. However, she does not have the capability to do anything.
What do Sadie and Jessica do with Justin’s Body?
The following morning, when Sadie wakes up, Jessica greets her with some breakfast. Sadie suddenly sees Justin lying on the floor with blood all over him. She tries to remember what happened last night. But Jessica tells her that since Justin was forcing himself upon her, it was Sadie who hit him on the head, resulting in his death. Sadie tries to state that, as far as she remembers, Jessica killed Justin. However, Jessica’s more confident approach toward the lie shuts down Sadie’s truth completely.
Later, Jessica and Sadie pack up Justin’s body and dispose of it right outside his apartment on the eve of Halloween. Sadie comes back to her house. She notices that the dress she stole from Brianna has blood all over it. Naturally, she can not return it now. She cries and decides to distance herself from Jessica for a while. However, Jessica texts her to meet, saying something about an emergency situation. When they meet, Jessica asks Sadie about loaning the dress that Owen had bought for her. Sadie tries to reject it, but Jessica leaves her with no choice.
Why does Brianna fire Sadie?
Owen comes back from the trip and gifts a very costly bag to Sadie. Sadie does not reveal anything about Justin and whatever has happened during this time. While Sadie is spending time with Owen, later that night, Jessica suddenly arrives outside of the house. Sadie asks her to stay outside, and she comes down to meet her. Jessica says that she has planned something big for the weekend, and she wants Sadie to come over since it has been a rough few days. Sadie tries to ignore the invitation, but Jessica emotionally blackmails her, saying she is her best friend, and she does not trust anyone more than her, etc…
Anyway, when Sadie and Jessica reach the hotel, Jessica suddenly says that Sadie needs to pay for the room since Jessica is not carrying her ID. When Sadie hesitates to pay, Jessica humiliates her by saying she would have agreed to hang out if Jessica was paying. Anyway, Sadie pays for the stay, and then when the time comes, she leaves the party to seek comfort in Owen’s shelter. The following morning, Sadie receives a call from the hotel management informing her about a fine for the damage to the room. The manager also says they will mention the use of illegal drugs if she challenges their fine for the damages.
Later Brianna screams at Sadie as the total charge of the stay extends to almost ten thousand dollars. Sadie pays the whole amount via the company’s credit card, so Brianna knows all about it. She even understands that the missing dress has been stolen by Sadie only. Brianna tells very bad words about Sadie’s father, expressing regret that being a cousin to Sadie, she trusted her, and in return, Sadie has stolen from her. Brianna has no patience with Sadie anymore, so she decides to fire her on that instant. When Jessica learns about this, she confronts Brianna, making her unconscious by hitting her on the head.

How do the Police Arrest Jessica?
Since the time of Justin’s murder, Detective Gloria has followed Sadie and Jessica very closely. Justin takes a selfie that leads them to Owen’s house, and Owen does not have a clue about the happenings of that night. After Jessica’s attack on Brianna, the police knocked at Sadie’s door, arresting her as a primary suspect in that regard. Sadie tries to convince the authorities that she is not at fault here and that she is being framed by Jessica. Later, Jessica bails her out and, surprisingly, brings her to Owen’s house. Sadie sees that Owen’s hands are tied against a chair.
Jessica reveals that her father wants Owen dead, as he is not happy with his involvement in the business. Yes, they work together. Now, Jessica asks Sadie to stab Owen, and if she does not, both of them will die in Jessica’s hand. Sadie stabs Owen, and all of a sudden, the police arrive. Later, it is disclosed that all of this was staged as Detective Gloria makes a plan with Sadie to catch Jessica so that they can get to her father. Even the stab wound on Owen is not as serious as it looks, as Sadie has learned from her father how to stab a person without killing.
Some father Sadie has got there! Anyway, Sadie returns the dress to Brianna with Owen’s help. However, she will not be working any more with Brianna in her store. Sadie is just happy to keep herself away from all the troubles and acquisitions she had to conjure up because of Jessica. Detective Gloria helps Sadie remove herself from the allegation of killing Justin, and in return, she helps the police arrest Jessica once and for all.
