Prime Video’s Alex Cross brought James Patterson’s iconic detective to life, with Aldis Hodge stepping into the shoes of the brilliant and tormented investigator. Season 1 was packed with jaw-dropping twists, haunting villains, and plenty of mysteries that kept viewers guessing. Now, as we gear up for Season 2, let’s break down some of the biggest moments from the first season and what they might mean for what’s next.

What’s the Deal With Ramsey’s Creepy Mask?

One of the standout elements of Season 1 was Ed Ramsey, played by Ryan Eggold, and his unsettling mask. Every time Ramsey spoke to his online followers, he wore a bizarre mask of an ordinary-looking man—but it’s way creepier than it sounds.

Creator Ben Watkins explained that the mask was a nod to Ramsey’s dark inspiration: a real-life serial killer from Indiana who terrified people when Ramsey was a kid.

“That is a mask of the first killer, the one who caught his fancy,” Watkins shared. “He paralyzed an entire region… and that is what started [Ramsey’s] fascination with death.”

Originally, Ramsey’s voice was supposed to be modulated while he wore the mask, but Watkins found the unfiltered look even scarier:

“When I saw the takes of how that was affecting his mouth, that was scarier and weirder to me.”

It’s details like this that make Ramsey such a memorable and haunting villain. And since Watkins hinted that Ramsey could return, we might not have seen the last of him yet.

Did Miss Nancy Really Kill Maria?

One of the biggest twists in Season 1 was Miss Nancy confessing that she was behind Alex’s wife Maria’s murder. But there’s more to the story. According to Watkins, Miss Nancy ordered the hit, but someone else actually carried it out—and that person is still out there.

“It’s like Al Capone ordering Frank Nitti to kill someone,” Watkins explained. “You hold [Capone] responsible, but if you get your hands on Nitti, that’s also something.”

This loose end could mean more trouble for Alex in the future.

What to Expect in Season 2

Season 2 promises plenty of new surprises. Fans can look forward to a fresh villain and more focus on Alex’s best friend, John Sampson. While we’ve seen John supporting Alex through his grief, next season will dig into his own backstory and emotions.

“You’ve seen how good he is at helping Alex,” Watkins said. “But you haven’t seen how he’d handle it if he had to confront something himself.”

Watkins also teased a change in tone, saying the new killer’s story will feel “fun and refreshing,” while still staying true to the show’s intense, emotional core.

The Road Ahead for Alex Cross

With Season 1’s mysteries still lingering and a fresh story on the horizon, Alex Cross is shaping up to be an exciting ride. Each season is treated like a new book in the series, so fans can expect fresh killers, more drama, and even deeper character arcs as the show evolves.

Season 1 is streaming now on Prime Video, and Season 2 can’t come soon enough!
