One day, Neil (played by Jeremy Irvine), a widower, seeks Owen’s help to have a final word with his dead wife and to find closure. Owen refuses to help him. Iris learns about her estranged father’s death. So, she travels to Berlin to take care of the inherited pub. Upon reaching, a solicitor (played by Ned Dennehy) gets her name on the property documents. Later at night, she hears strange, distant sounds. She follows the sound and finds Neil. He tries to explain the purpose of his visit. Since Owen didn’t allow him to meet his dead wife, he asks Iris to help. Iris initially rejects the offer. But once Neil offers some money, she accepts the deal. The next day, her close friend, Katie (played by Ruby Barker), arrives at the pub. With Neil and Iris, she enters the basement.
In the basement, Neil shows them a big gap in the wall. He calls his late partner, Sarah (played by Svenha Jung), and believes she will appear in front of them. Iris and Katie do not believe him. But moments later, they see a figure walk toward them. This creature has a bag covering its head. It does not follow Neil’s commands, but it follows whatever Iris asks it to. As told, the creature sits on a chair. Although Neil wants to meet Sarah, he ends up meeting his late mother, Regina (played by Julika Jenkins). For about two minutes, Neil and Regina talk about their regrets. But right past that window, its eyes turn all black. Iris puts the bag over its head just in time to avert any tragedy. It is the only way to return the creature to behind the wall.
Who is Baghead? Why does the Baghead follow Iris’ commands?
In her father’s pub, Iris discovers a dark basement inhabited by a she-devil creature called ‘Baghead.’ She learns that this shape-shifting creature will let people speak to their lost loved ones. But as with any good thing in life, it comes with its own share of life-threatening consequences. Through Neil’s attempt to meet his dead wife, Iris learns about the two-minute window. If they cross it, the guest’s life can turn into a living hell. Moreover, this Baghead listens to and follows only Iris’s commands because Iris’ name is on the property’s contract.
After learning these details, Katie advises Iris to escape the pub at the earliest. But Iris doesn’t want to leave until she takes care of the monstrous creature. So, Katie decides to stay with her. She soon discovers the pub’s connection to someone called Otto Vogler (played by Felix Römer). So, she reads about him on the internet. Right after, she sees his spirit appear in front of her. Meanwhile, Iris brings Neil to the basement to meet Sarah. But he has an ulterior motive for doing this. Before Sarah’s death, Neil learned Sarah was unfaithful to their relationship.
What does Iris learn about her father?
In the basement, Neil keeps speaking with Sarah’s spirit for more than two minutes, which creates trouble. Luckily, Iris puts a bag on the creature’s head and stops the matter from getting any worse. Later, she sees a scenario where her father used the Baghead to meet Catherine (played by Saffron Burrows). Like Neil, Owen also wanted to say goodbye to his late beau. This time, he tries to burn the property down so that Iris won’t have to deal with the misery. But the creature takes control of Catherine’s spirit and kills him. Seeing this vision, Iris decides to confront the Baghead. Instead, she puts her own life in danger. Katie comes to rescue her from the chokehold.
Baghead (2024) Movie Ending Explained:
Why did Owen try to burn down the pub?
Katie worries for Iris’s safety and urges her to leave the pub immediately. But Iris insults Katie and makes her leave. Still concerned for Iris, Katie heads to Otto Vogler’s abandoned house. Inside, she sees a series of documents that prove his connection to Owen’s pub. Meanwhile, Iris uses the Baghead to get in touch with Owen’s spirit. He reveals that he wanted the pub to burn down so that Iris’ name wouldn’t come on the property documents. He believed it would have released her from the Baghead curse. Iris gets angry at him for holding on to all these secrets. Owen reveals that the Baghead won’t let her escape no matter what.
What happens to Katie in the end?
After learning some details about Otto Vogler, Katie returns to the pub. She tries calling Iris on her phone repeatedly but gets no answer. This is because Iris had lost her consciousness. But Katie doesn’t know that. She walks down the basement and ends up bringing Otto’s spirit to life through the Baghead creature. He tells her the history of people kidnapped by the evil entity. Eventually, Otto’s spirit learns that Katie isn’t the gatekeeper, i.e., the property’s owner. So, this creature takes Katie’s life. Moments later, Iris receives a call from Katie, telling her that she is in the basement.
Does Iris escape the curse of Baghead?
Iris reaches the basement and looks for Katie. Since Katie isn’t in the room, she walks beyond the broken wall. Eventually, she meets Katie only to realize that it is the Baghead tricking her with Katie’s appearance. Iris realizes that Katie is dead and regrets her decision to prolong her stay. Neil tells Iris to get some rest. Then, he enters the basement on his own, thinking Iris is sleeping. He speaks with Sarah’s spirit. To make the Baghead follow his demands, he also writes his name on the contract. But that doesn’t work in his favor.
Sarah confronts Neil for his lack of understanding at the dawn of their relationship. Turns out, she was pregnant before her death. Now, for her and Neil to be together, he needs to kill Iris. Neil realizes that Iris is overhearing this conversation. So, he follows her and kills her. Then, he carries Iris to the basement and expects the Baghead to help him. Once Iris’ spirit appears in the room, Neil requests her to get his name on the lease. However, the Baghead takes benefit of Iris’s appearance to gain access to her life. In the end, it kills Neil and burns down the building.
What is Baghead about?
“Baghead” is loosely about a few issues that its characters grapple with. Both the primary male characters – Owen and Neil refused to let go of their past. They sulked in regret for things beyond their control. Their secrets or inability to be open with others led to their eventual demise.
Baghead (2024) Movie Review:
Alberto Corredor’s “Baghead” follows a young woman who returns to her estranged father’s old pub, which she has inherited after his sudden death. It follows a derivative plot that tries to justify some strange decisions of its characters. For starters, we see Iris return to this old pub only out of respect for her father. Considering her otherwise financial struggles, we assume she will sell this place. It’s not like she won’t get any offers. Still, she decides to get money from a stranger who wants to talk to his dead wife.
In what world would someone choose this offer instead of selling the place? It is also evident that she feels no strong emotional connection to this inherited architecture or her distant father. Then, why is she ready to risk her life for a much lesser wad of cash? Of course, the film wouldn’t exist without this series of events. But, even if I choose to believe in this change of heart, “Baghead” becomes just another forgettable thriller driven largely by the virtue of shock value. It’s a hodge-podge of Horror cliches, which evokes no visceral feeling and wastes whatever creative talent it has through its cast or crew.
